I'm skeptical. You're Australian, after all.

This just a temporary visit, then?

Uhhh, I don't know if I can point to one thing in particular. I know in high school I spent so much time stressing about what I wanted to be when I grew up. I thought I'd go into computers since that's what my step-dad does and those jobs pay pretty well, but I took a bunch of classes for it and it wasn't my thing.

I had to decide what was most important, money or enjoyment. Since I'd be doing this for at least 40 years, I figured it'd be best to go into something I enjoyed doing. I was tutoring in high school to earn a scholarship (which eventually paid for my first two years of college) and I realized I enjoyed it. Didn't finally decide until my sophmore year of college though.

With teaching, it feels like I have some sort of impact on the world, albeit maybe a small one, but even affecting 1 student in a class of 30 is enough for me. I had teachers that really shaped who I am today, and I think that impacted me quite a bit.

Ironically, in high school I was too shy to even give a 5 minute presentation in front of my peers. Now I've given speeches to rooms of hundreds of people, done t.v. interviews that millions have seen, etc. I'm not as natural as some of my colleagues, but I'm a completely different person than I was.

I chose English just because it was my best subject in high school and I hated Science in particular. Math just seems boring as hell to teach and it's hard to get students motivated in math. Everyday we used to ask our teacher "when will we use this in life?" which was a douche move on us, but it's a valid question. English has more tangible life applications for the average person, and I think that goes doubly for teaching English as a second language which is what I'm trying to go into.

Ah, that's right - one child policy. Yeah it gets pretty crazy here. My only regret is not having a biological sister. I have 3 adopted sisters now, but it's not really the same, and the youngest was 10 when we got her - so it's not like we raised them from birth or anything. There's drawbacks too though. I barely get a chance to talk to my mom since we have so many people running around (still living at home while I wait on my interview results).

Actually with this job, I'm a bit different than a normal HS English teacher. I get paid more, but I have fewer responsibilities. Most of the time I'll actually play more of an assistant role, or I'll co-teach with the normal teacher. Most of us have multiple schools and we switch on the daily. I'd be kind of that special American guest that shows up once a week. But every situation is different. Some of the people in this program are barely utilized, while others get full control of the classroom. I won't know until August (that's if we were to assume I get the job).

Actually, as of writing this, it seems like those that interviewed in the New York and Chicago consulates literally just got their results. That means mine should come soon.

Uhh, depends on what you already know. I have 9 siblings now, my dad had 2 more kids and we adopted 4... so I went from 3 to 9. I graduated college back in Dec. (high school English teaching degree)

Still in America at the moment, but I applied for a teaching job in Japan back in November. Made it to the interview stage which I did back in January. Now I'm actually right in the middle of the results coming out. I can hear back any time from yesterday until April 11th whether I got the job or not.

Excellent. The recession's been rough all around the world. I'm sure you'll make it though. You have gumption.

Well, my thing worked out somehow, even though it looked hopeless. If you live long enough good things can happen.

Just like with your work right now. Being a business owner means you have to sacrifice a lot of time and energy to keep things going for years, and sometimes you even make bad deals or mistakes that you need to make up for. But that's part of life, and if you get through it and mature, like you are, you eventually come out ahead.

Edit: My nephew came into my room and wants me to type "poooooooooooooop." So. Pooooooooooooooooop.

Edit 2: Now he's in bed. Sorry you had to read that, but it made him very happy. He's 9.

That's cool. Do you make most of your sales Outback? ... You're always doing something new and exciting whenever I hear back from you.

Aw, you're so sweet. I didn't mean to upset you. You're right, and I shouldn't joke like that. I'm very grateful for your friendship and the abundance of happiness you brought to my life too. It's always good to hear from you unexpectedly. My current attachment to NF is responding to the occasional VM or PM I get.

What is your other attachment, if I may ask?

You're a business owner now eh? I always thought you'd be a good employer. What kind of business do you have?

Your impressions are wrong. In real I am an illiterate antisocial who communicates by stringing together profanities and rude gestures. Shocking but true.

Do you still draw or do anything recreationally artistic?

I wouldn't ignore you. My computer died after I got it, and I've been stuck in mobile browsing ever since. I'm hoping I can finally get it fixed tomorrow, and can write properly. I've also been sick, and with relatives that were visiting. Look forward to a response. And sorry I didn't say something sooner. I don't want to give you abandonment issues. :(
