Mantises spent a lot of energy producing the eggs so each bit of nurishment she can get is essential! Also while she's devouring his head the male keeps pumping sperm so she can produce more :lmao

    Got anything about parasitoid wasps?
    Swarmy
    Swarmy
How they keep control over her after emerging is still a mystery but it's be shown that 1 or 2 wasp larvae sacrifice themselves and remain inside the caterpillar, so maybe they control her!

Anyway this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to these wasps! It's been estimated there may be more than a million parasitoid wasp species alive right now and most of them have unique behaviours and parasitic methods!

    Awesome!

    So what's your name dude?
Yoo, can you remember my problem with mites that i mentioned ages ago?

Sadly, they seemingly have spread to pretty much all my animal enclosures (even my snakes =/ ). I have yet to see any of them actually latch on to any of my animals (be it insects or my snake), but they are also starting to roam my flat. Do you know of a way to combat these pesky little motherfuckers?

They attack each other on sight! Especially 2 males... I tried breeding them too but it's hard as hell.
    Asaya7

i guess for breeding both parties need to be well fed before?

I've seen some videos of the YT channel DarkDen (maybe you even know it?) and he definitely lost some males to females when tryint to breed them lol.

Jumpers are just weird bugs... They are closer to mammals when it comes to behavior!
    Hello Swarmy,how are you? :)

Nah I can't afford a VR set as well... I still have to finish the walkthrough but honestly I'm not that big of a fan of this particular entry. Somehow it doesn't really feel like HL.

I'm lucky enough to have a Rift, just not a powerful enough PC for Alyx in particular. I am a big fan, but I feel like it's more because I'm attached to the Half-Life 2 pieces of it. Like, seeing Civil Protection in higher res and such.

The production value is insane I can see that but the game feels a bit off and I don't know why... A bit too much humor and slow pace I guess.
I've always been a bigger fan of HL1 than 2 but yeah it almost surreal to see all of this in hi res... Especially the antlion which have been my favs since I was 14!
    Hello Swarmy,how are you? :)

Well it cracked after I dropped it hard :maybe
Also the battery is now swollen...

Who knows... The economy is going to hell...
It was a year after Starship Troopers, which also had a war against bugs. Both were epic because it dealt with disillusionment after blind loyalty to the state, in a visually entertaining medium.

The book was a whole lot more clear on that point (which makes sense since it was a Robert Heinlein book), the movie took alot of creative liberties with the source material to make it into an action movie so the original point is harder to grasp for casual viewers.

I read the book after seeing the movie but I was left with the impression that it was a lot more serious and genuine about how a military society can be a good and prosperous thing?
Then again so was the movie, I mean fascist tendencies aside life in the SST movie universe seems a lot more liberal than today. Voting was limited to those that serve but it seemed like most people had freedom and peace to enjoy.

Well you had to serve to get citizenship (along with a few other ways explained in the sequels) but for the most part yeah. Citizenship was earned.
That sucks man, entomology is awesome and deserves more research/development funding lol.

I did physics and worked various jobs in tech for a few years. In the process of becoming unemployed atm, planning on doing a computer science PhD.

But I read a lot as a hobby lol, biology is one of my favourite subjects. E.O. Wilson is one of my favourite scientists, he's awesome.
    Prokopton
    Prokopton
It was the opposite for me. I didn’t like memorizing stuff but biology can be much more interesting than I thought back then.

Oh, it was my own decision. I currently work in medical-imaging and am basically fulfilling the last bits of my contract.

He apparently wrote an encyclopaedic work on ants, I never got round to reading it, I mostly read his general science books.
    Swarmy
    Swarmy
I have a huge problem with memorization. Being an entomologist is essentially a game of memory, there are nearly 1,5 million species discovered!

Got any plans for the future?

I prefer popular science books! If I want to know the pure facts I turn to books that cover that. I'm a huge fan of Parasite Rex by Carl Zimmer, it's an amazing book for those interested in parasitology and entomology!
    Prokopton
    Prokopton
Have you tried Anki? Look up the concept of spaced-repetition if you haven’t man – it’s basically a complete game-changer in terms of memorizing

Well I’m actually really interested in combining my two main interests atm, CS and genetics so research in applying AI to genomics

Yeah Carl Zimmer is another favourite author. I like beginning with pop-sci but have a compulsive need to understand details ;p

It's an actual kids show in France, I have no idea how and why they also used to air it here but I loved it! Was going to watch the movie but it never hit the cinemas here so yeah...
Surprised you haven't added Lucas the Jumping Spider to your sig Swarmy!
    Swarmy
    Swarmy
He was interesting in the beginning but his creator kind of milked the hell out of the concept... I know Lucas became way too popular way too fast but sometimes less is more.
