Kishi had done painstaking research on Japanese legends before. There is no way he doesn't know who Yamato is. Yamato is the owner of Kusanagi. I have attached the relevant legend with this thread. I still can't relate it to Naruto's plot yet(there maybe no connection at all). But I decided to share it with you all anyway.:oh

I think the Yamato in those names is more in reference to them being part of the Yamato race, ie: Yamato-Takeru or Yamato no Takeru = Takeru of Yamato.

lol well they are just names, but usually in some anime, they try to give the names reference to old folklore, or even past events. Whether they do it with every name is questionable, but the fact that they gave him this codename and the connection with Oro that the name has in reference to the story that yasha ong found does make the name rather suspicious, considering that they're looking for him right now....or at least the spy:).

But Yamato is an extremely famous province in Japanese history, it's not famous because of these stories.

Well, Yamato is a very common Japanese name, which would be perfect as a fake name. So, until the story progresses and we see a bit more of this smexy Anbu, I don't think his name really has a lot to do with this legend. Especially since he's not the wielder of the Kusanagi.

tsunade just gave him that as a code name rember people, but maybe he have something to do with the sword.

kishi put legends and his emphasis on them in show. if you watch eps.104
youll see, naruto stands for whirlpool and remember when naruto use kage bushin
with rasengan and it created a whirlpool. not a coinsidence.

Yeah, it's his codename, but I don't think Kishimoto also wrote the "Yamato Works" stick on 281 for nothing. The speculation came true, partly. Great work! (I'm also really impressed about the grassfield coincidence)

i really like the japanese legends, 'coz it gives an idea about their way of thinkin', thanx for this story.
i have two questions: first, in the battle between saru and oro, didn't the monkey (enma) take kusangi with him at the end of battle? secundo, the place where we first saw danzou is named yamato works and this person's code name is also yamato, can you find any connection? a little third, the new leader of team kakashi isn't he the anbu with white clothes who was watchin' the battle of oro and saru?

Yamato is also the name for a nuclear powered death-ray from Starcraft.

    Think about it...

    blazingshadow said
no susanoo killed orochi with the kusanagi and gave it to sister amaterasu.
so hopefully sasuke will have something to do with that.

I was thinking the same thing.
That, and his face design, made this new character really appealing imho. ^^

P.S. Dyroness, I noticed the connection to "Yamato Works" too!

Well, I suppose to be more technically correct, one would have to say "an old name" instead, but yeah, "yamato" is typically recognized in Japan as being an old/alternate name of Japan. The name of "yamato" was actually originally the name of a specific people/political regime from a part of Japan in lower Honshu (around Nara if I remember correctly). Since this Yamato was the dominate political power in Japan until about the 7th century (again, if I remember correctly), the name Yamato was thus became used to refer to Japan as a whole.

While Yamato is most typically associated as being an alternate name of Japan, it is also used in, for instance, fictional names. I can't really say I have ever heard of any real people with a surname or given name of "yamato", but then again, I'm really bad with names...
