Terrible. The old man is lucky to be alive. Hopefully he can fully recover.

All of this because he bumbed into someone?
One can only imagine what would have happened if he opened the door for her at the corner store.

If he doesn't, it's 1st or 2nd degree homicide, depending upon on whether or not it can be determined if her intention involved planning and malice. I'm guessing 2nd degree homicide, though it is a hate crime, so that might bump it up to 1st degree also depending upon the state.

But why didn’t the old man speak English?

The man is still alive, so it can’t be homicide. Assault and battery are more likely to be the charges.

Maybe he never learned because he lives there in a Latino community.
There are plente of people who never learned a second language. Sometimes due to how they were taught decades ago, no incentive (if you live in a predominantly Cantonese neighbourhood, you probably will not learn Mandarin.).

Wow crazy. I think learning the language of the country you are citizen from should be required

I know right? People who don't speak English should expect to be murdered with bricks in the street.

Spanish is the unofficial second official language of the USA though.
Plus at 92, not everyone is able to go back to school. All it take is a stroke and there goes the memory.

It's called irony. This is a thread about a man being assaulted with a brick, and you are making off-topic posts suggesting he is to blame for that. I simply made it more explicit.

The name for the thing you just did is "Victim Blaming", btw. It's also often employed in discussions about rape.

What’s an unofficial official language? From what I got he hasn’t learned the language, sure just a guess but given the story if he truly simply lost is English it would surely be covered in the report as well. I feel it’s weird to live somewhere for who knows how long and not speak the language. Isn’t that also part of becoming citizen and/or basic school knowledge?

I called the incident terrible. The question why a 92 year old citizen of a country doesn’t speak the countries language however is not victim blaming and I ask you to refrain from insinuating me doing so

It is when we have a thread about a man being assaulted with a brick and you make posts attempt to portray him as being wrong. When the only thing he did in this story was being hit with a brick.

It's the same as when a woman gets raped and someone says: "but why was she wearing a skirt"? Or when a gay couple is murdered and someone says: "but why were they kissing in public"?

There are a lot of things your words can say without being explicit about it. When you make a post like that, you change the tone of the discussion to one where the victim is liable to being blamed for what happened to them.

Interesting to see what you interpret from some random questions. For example you are suggesting that my posts are an attempt at portraying him being in the wrong - so you don’t see the question I asked as just a question which someone wants to have an answer for but it automatically triggers an emotional respond which causes you to think that it is my desire to shift the topic of the conversation away from the incident

I find that fascinating. Why is that so? Would it not be much simpler to just give an explanation as for why people in the US can become citizens without speaking the language, satisfying my thirst for knowledge on the matter and moving on?

Or do you want to artificially outrage yourself because the possibility presented itself to feel offended over a question?

Ah typical victim blaming its his fault he bumped the girl and doesn't speak English so he deserves what he got clearly.

Where are usual suspects to tell us how Liberals and the Left are violent while Conservative Trump Lovers are innocent Angels?

Honestly, go home makes far more sense from some Racist in Europe like Italy then it does from some White American...the land got stolen from Native Americans.

He could still die. He is 92 after all. It's like beating Queen Elizabeth II or Betty White or Prince Philip half to death.

He can become a permanent resident.

The thread mentioned he is a legal us citizen. According to what I know this also requires some speech knowledge or so. There is a difference between permanent residence and actual citizen right?

Question is simply: can you become a proper us citizen without speaking the language? Thought that was impossible

I don't think he's trolling, he's just being manipulative. This is a news story that may convince some of the people who read it that anti-immigration is going too far, so his posts may reduce that damage by suggesting the man was in the wrong.
