    Amateratsu vs. Rasenshuriken...

A lot of people like to say that these two OP Jutsu are more or less equal to each other, but I don't understand how?! The Amateratsu is clearly superior to the Rasenshuriken... For TWO big reasons.

    1. In terms of destructive capability, the Amateratsu clearly has the RS beat. Naruto's RS was powerful, but was totally unable to destroy any of Pain's summonings, most problematic was that three-headed dog, that only got more powerful the more you beat it up, and could not be stopped... the thing was almost immortal... UNTIL Itachi effortlessly killed it with Amateratsu, which does and did destroy it since it keeps burning the target, until it is destroyed. Also, consider when Naruto hit Kakazu with the RS... Kakazu actually survived a direct hit with the RS, whereas... if he had been hit with an Amateratsu, the black flames would have continued burning Kakazu until he was completely consumed by flames. Also, consider the reanimated Third Raikage... Naruto's RS only managed to push him back a little, dude was basically invincible except for that one spot (lightning scar), but an Amateratsu would have burned him until nothing was left. Consider other reanimated Shinobi, they were immortal and even when you destroyed them, they just reform. A RS might temporarily destroy them, but they could just reform. An Amateratsu could consume ALL of them, and thus they would not be able to re-form, hence killing the immortals! Also, consider Hidan... they say... the only thing that can kill Hidan is starvation, but... for sure the RS would mess his body up, but the guy would survive, however, once again... because the Amateratsu consumes every part of a target, if Hidan were hit with it, he would be completely destroyed. Therefore Amateratsu > Rasenshuriken.

    2. Any jutsu is ONLY effective if you can land it. The high-flying multi-rotational flashy kicks of Taekwondo are awesome looking, and due to centrifugal force, as well as the fact that the legs are the strongest parts of the human body... no doubt they have more force behind them than punches do, but... you do not often see them used in MMA/UFC, because... they are very difficult to land, and are therefore largely ineffective/unpractical. Therefore a technique's land-ability greatly contributes to how good/valueable a technique is. Naruto has to throw the RS, and while its hurling its way at a target, the target can move to evade it. However, Amaterasu users don't throw the Amateratsu through physical space... they just look at a target, and think it on an opponent, and boom... they're toast! Only shinobi capable of incredible bursts of speed, the access to alternate dimensions (Kamui), and/or teleportation have any hope of dodging it! And, only those with the Rinnegan would be immune, since they can absorb it, it can also absorb the RS too though, so no advantage either way there. The point is, the Amateratsu is FAR easier to land than the RS, once again... making it superior.

How exactly can a Rasenshuriken, or EVEN a Lava-Rasenshuriken, or ANY Variety of the RS be equal to Amateratsu???

As far as I can tell... Amateratsu is the BEST offensive jutsu in the entire series, with... the black sage of six-paths orbs/ ten-tail jinjuruki orbs being the only contender.

    Thoughts?!?!?!

it was writing nerfs. Meaning they kept adding new information about the ability more and more. Basically the kept adding ways of countering the amaterasu. At first it was seen as 'fire that can't be extinguished' this meant that the amaterasu was unstoppable once it hit you. Now on the top of my memory they kept adding rules such as:

    1. If you have a jinchurki cloak you can cloak out the amaterasu
    2. Almighty push counters amaterasu
    3. sand counters amaterasu
    4. kamui counters amaterasu (debatable)
    5. anybody can dodge amaterasu
    6. you can split your body in two quickly to avoid amaterasu.

The only 2 that makes moderate sense is 6.
