Love how the article keeps trying to say the AI is making a mistake or being random by choosing the superior option for the job based on the resume presented.

Such is the world we live in where equality trumps ability. I wonder how far we are from NFL teams needing a quota of female players they have to fill because it would be so incredibly unfair to admit publicly that men are superior to women in physical matters. I mean Amazon is already disbanding a program because it gave them an answer that is correct.. but isn't politically correct. As usual, in this thread and others show that my controversial wrongthink get's unequivocally vindicated in front of pillow-biting libshits and their callow ilk :rotfl

Truth of the day: we're better off subsidising women's plastic surgery than their education.

This article isn't even about that. The AI picked up on the wrong pattern and misunderstood the amount of men applying to the field as an indication of who is relevant to the field. It didn't reject women applicants because they were worse, but because they were so uncommon. Its programming misinterpreted men's majority to mean men were therefore preferable and it should ignore women.

"Women are dumber than men and would be better off getting facelifts than an education" :ufdup

The number of men applying to the field is an indication of who is relevant to the field, yeah. Excpetions can exist but proove the rule :)

I don't see the problem. Far more men are interested in tech and far more men study tech than women and do better in said field, Where is the logic? Of course, some of it is socially constructed, but any real innate phenomena is going to lead to people developing social systems around it. Even with all the propaganda in the world and government forces pushing for super equal outcomes (look at what Scandinavian countries are doing), Men still dominate tech. And because of innate advantages suited to the world of tech, always will.

    Pretty much.

If the program was objective, I would agree with you. If the program rejected women because none of them was the superior applicant, I would support that it is the right thing and shouldnt be changed, and indeed a push for changing it would be retarded.

However rejecting women simply because more men applied is not acceptable. The program should select based on objective criteria, not on social systems. It should look into all profiles and objectively choose the best candidate, regardless of the social systems around it.

I'm sure Amazon has enough applications to train the model equally on both genders. Massive miscalculation on their part.

These algorithms are typically set up to look at the history of hiring. So they inherit bias like that a lot of the time.
