So what is the final lesson that Dragon Ball Super, a show that is avidly watched by a myriad of impressionable young boys around the world, sees fit to bestow upon its fans? Quite fittingly in a series such as this, it’s that power is everything. Quite the nice sentiment, is it not? It seems we can always count on Toei and Toriyama for these valuable life lessons.

Hard work? Convictions? Morality? What rubbish! Kierro with that shit. The villains always win, so you might as well start a life of crime and give yourself a nice head start. Remember kids: trust begets nothing. In the end, the only thing that matters is power.

    Children around the world: But—

BUT NOTHING! That’s it! Owarida! Go to bed or Zeno-sama will erase you!

...You’re still here. Why are you still here? Show’s over, go home! JUST GO! GET OUT YOU DAMN BRATS! GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY MULTIVERSE!!!!

    RAAAAAAUUUUUUGGGGHHHHH!@#$!%^&*)*&!^%$#@#$!%^&*(!

Tbh, that will prepare them mentally for the hardship and unfairness of life.

    "Yeah, but they're kids!"

Sooner or later they'll find out and they will know true pain!

Look at it from another point of view. Jiren winning means that if you dedicate yourself to something you can be the best at that thing and it shows that you shouldn't always rely on others to help you and you should learn to do things yourself.

Also remember that Jiren is a good guy.

    Shut the fuck up!

Who gives a shit about the fucking kids! They can go fuck themselves!(Well not litterally but the usuage of kids as mere helpless sheep is wrong here, they have sheperds called parents)

This is first and foremost a fucking shonen. Remember the show u and i used to watch as kids? where the solution was gut checking a motherfucker so hard u could see his fist in the back of his body and he caughed up blood? U know the way to deal with an wordly treat? Can u imagine if every fucking world leader just fucking started punching the shit out of each other when dealing with massive treats that could be distraous to the world? Remember that one time in which that father had left his 4 year old son by a giant green slug monster. and that giant green slug monster punched the shit out of that kid? and then that kid became strong? Clearly it teaches us that if we ever procreate we can leave our children at some abusive motherfucker in hope our kid grows up to be a kind but badass nerd with a hot fucking chick and a rich fucking father in law?
Oh and our granddaughter is also going to be fucking OP and can fly.

Remember that time in wich goku let an short haired prick go off scott free cause he was strong? Remember that prick that killed your friends and litterally ran u over with an car to the point that u can't move? Well clearly he deserves a second chance and shouldn't be prosecuted cause he is strong.

Or an even better example involving a child. U know that pussy kid that got abused by a green slug monster? Well he told his dad to go fuck em self once he roided up a bit and put gel in his hair. clearly this show also teaches u can tell your father to go fuck himself too.

DBZ and Think of the children are not to be in one sentence. U know damn well with all the nudidity and sexual innunedos heck even flat out stripteasing and naked goku's big semian bastard naked butt(Princess snake episode and more) that u are way too fucking late to think of the children now. Almost convieantly so. but now that Jiren actually owns goku now we gotta think about the children?

Ask yourself this. Do u respond to any hardship in life with shouting for 5 minutes and then beating the crap of something or somebody? If the answer is no wich it should it means u actually are either smart, had parents/caretakers or learned that a fucking kids show is a fucking kids show!

    More like they never win.

    Goku vs. Beerus: Goku loses.
    Goku vs. Freeza: Goku loses.
    Goku vs. Hit: Goku loses.
    Goku vs. Black: Goku loses.
Goku vs. Jiren: What do you know? That's 0 for 5.

    It's gotten ridiculous.

Beerus destroys planets because he doesn't like the food there and Hit is an assassin. Whether or not they are villains in the narrative sense, they certainly are reprehensible in relation to our own moral standards in the real world. That aside, I don't think that was entirely Etherborn's point. He can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think what he's saying is that, despite being the protagonist and main character of the series, Goku's record against antagonists as a whole, not just villains, is pretty abysmal.

What is the theme of this movie?

Toriyama: "As a rule, there is no such thing as a theme in my work. I want to make it exclusively a piece of “entertainment” that’s easy to understand for anyone who watches. There are a lot of other manga written in a complex style, so I suppose I’d like all the more for it to be pure entertainment. However, it’s wrong to be drawing it in an overly wholesome way, as well. I believe that a manga is over if it gets too wholesome. (laughs)"

    Toriyama, best manga author!

This is one of the main issues that caused me to make this thread. But even beyond the fact that he pretty much never wins anymore, the circumstances surrounding his loss make it a completely pointless and degrading one. It's not just that he lost, it's that:

-He got two unexplained power ups just so he could win
-17 literally died so that he could win
-Vegeta gave him the last of his ki and put his unwavering faith in him, talking him up as if he couldn't lose and giving him encouragement to the point where he was able to reawaken UI
    -He proceeds to lose

In essence: All that hype and buildup was for nothing. If it was real life, that would all be well and good, because real life is random as fuck and shit just happens. But in a fucking anime series? I'm not saying he should win all the time, but if you're going to make him lose, don't have everyone and their twin brother sacrifice themselves for the win only for it to be meaningless, because it's bad writing.

Anyone can tell that this kind of outcome is just a desperate attempt to make the ending "unpredictable" when it's really just stupid.

It would be one thing if this was a piece of satire in which Toriyama was poking fun at other anime series by diverting the "I have to win so I will" trope. But @Superstars post says it all. It's not satire. There's no hidden meaning or theme behind it. It's just terrible decision making. They could have left the end result of this fight in a five year old's hands and they probably would have done it better.

Goku lost but it didn't matter as they werent going to do anything to him.

Beerus was just being a God of destruction and looking for a fight and food while Hit was only there because of the tournament and got chosen by Chanpa and Vados.

They are bad as they kill people but in the situation to do with Goku they were not doing bad things.

Your point was that they weren't bad guys, not that they were doing villainous things when fighting Goku, and even then, that's still untrue for Beerus. The guy was gonna destroy the world because he didn't get any pudding. Fucking pudding.

Beerus has destroyed people not out of a sense of duty, but because they didn't please him to his fullest, just like Freeza. On top of that, he willfully ignored people like Freeza who caused mass damage because of his laziness, only stepping in with people like Zamasu because they were a direct threat to him.

Hit is an assassin. Nuff said.

Jiren is a good guy who through hard work obtained his spot at the top.

Unlike Goku who is a junkie who is always looking for his next fix and is unemployed.

Toei really gave these kids a good role model.

Jiren is indeed a good guy, despite being somewhat of a jerk, because his job is to save people. He's a hero.

Hit on the other hand is an assassin and has no remorse about killing anyone as long the pay is good. He's not an "antagonist" in this story, but he's in no way a good guy. He's a criminal.

Beerus has been neglecting his duties for fuck knows how many millennia and he's so petty that he kills people over food. He's an asshole with too much power in his hands that is a danger to everyone in U7. It wasn't until his faithful meeting with the Z Fighters that he's mellowed out a bit.

One of the things I like about Jiren is that he is like a perfect foil for Hit.

Hit is a polite and well-mannered assassin.
Jiren is a hero, but also an asshole.

Well in real life it is. I know comic books, games and films try to teach you that there is something beyond absolute power and the ability to strike fear into people so they obey you but it's not true. Sadly yes, power is everything in our world.
