Pre-Eclipse Griffith (just before he was captured and tortured In the tower for a year....when he fought against Guts)

    vs

Serpico Vendimion (before he gets the wind sword and cape)

    Who is the better swordman?

    Griffith

    Bit hard to say tho.

Serpico was able to hold his own against a post eclipse guts while Griffith wasn't able too.
I'd say Griffith is a more intellegent fighter, i also remember him jumping on guts sword during there due and walking up it. Hes also a Master at hand to hand combat.

    Good battle tho

hmm, this is diffucult battle... Serpico would win...

Serpico is pretty weaknes... but Serpico is high intelligence tactics strategical...
he is very fast than Griffith.

I don't think, Gutts attacked in one hit to Griffith's dropped sword, he was shocked... he is left from Band of The Hawks...

so Gutts vs Serpico (he is awesome tactics strategical) from chapter 255...

Gutts vs Griffith (Gutts is winner for second)
Gutts vs Serpico (Gutts is winner for minute)
    so... Serpico would win...

with the feather sword Serpico no doubt...without it it could go either way.

Serpico only managed to survive against Guts because he fought him on a narrow cliffside were guts couldnt maneuver...and he STILL had to retreat.

I'm gonna say Griffith due to the fact he has been in more real life battles, unlike Serpico who before meeting Gutts didn't really fight for real, only in duels. But in skill they are probably somewhat close, only Griffith a bit better. since they both use a slim sword and a fencing style this will be an interesting battle.

    Props to the topic creator.

Serpico is a better duelist. He has shown as good if not better personal tactical skills than Griffith and fights Guts for a good period of time without losing horribly. Griffith has other talents but in this arena I would give it to serpico. Remember that move he pulled, grabbing the explosive charge off Gut's belt while swinging under him, then chucking at him and vanishing while on a narrow ledge. Fast and smart as hell.

This is definitely a fight worth commenting on.

Hard to say really. Both Serpico and this version Griffith have high intelligence with the sword. I think I'll side with Griffith mainly for the experience factor.

By gauging their respective fights withs Gutts, your probably right.

However much I like Serpico better than Griffith, I got a bad habit of siding with the underdog...

Yeah, but you have to put the two fights in perspective.

When Gutts fought Griffith he was well rested. Before the fight with Serpico, Gutts had fought the elf-queen apostle and her minions, several demons, the rest of the H.I.C.K.s and the bridge knight, and several demon-possessed dogs.

And compare their motivations. Griffith wasn't trying to kill Gutts, just wound him in a duel. In contrast, Serpico was doing his best to kill Gutts by attacking him from behind.

Then again, Serpico fought more intelligently. He only battled Gutts when he thought he had an advantage, like attacking Gutts from behind or on the cliffedge or in the basement with all the stone pillarts. So, Serpico will only attack Griffith when he thinks he has the strongest chance of winning. I say Serpico wins. :)

    For clarification purposes.

Are you saying that he is as fast as Griffith or faster than Griffith by a wide margin?
