We all love books (well, if you landed in that part of the forum, it's because you love books. Surely.), but there's something annoying with litterature thirst: you can't always have the books you want to.

I'm pretty sure everyone has the same problem. So rant here, and maybe people can help each others finding rare books, why not?

There's a lot of great books in this world (okay, a lot of crappy ones too), but there's always a handfu of books that you want (badly), but that you can't get, for different reasons ( it's not out yet, it's out of print, you can't find it in your lost countryside, it's not translated in your language, you don't have enough money to afford it, and so on.)

    Me, I currently have 3 itches :
Terry Pratchett's "Thud" -> : I really can't wait for it to be out, I'm gnawing at my desk each time I see the cover. *it's sad, I know*

    Yamada Fuutarou "Jiraiya ninpouchou" : GAH, I just can't find it, I must be doomed! Yamada Fuutarou's take on the Kabuki legend, Jiraiya. GAH, I need it ;_;

Steven Brust, the whole "Vlad Taltos" serie. I've heard of it recently, and it sounds SO DAMN interesting, but I absolutely don't have the money to buy it now. So I keep on drooling in front of Amazon, looking at the covers scans.

And what about you people? =3

Hnn. Beware, I'm going to ask you a stupid question.

    Why can't you have those?
(If it's because you can't read japanese, just ignore the next paragraph.)

If you can read Japanese, you can always use , or if you're not at ease/can't use that, or if they are too expensive; I guess I could always buy those in a second hand bookshop, and send them to you. (I live in Tokyo)

    Now, I hope I didn't startled you too much with my stupid question. ^^;

I wanted to read the Da Vinci code for a while but since everyone was making a big deal of it and I never jump on the bandwagon, I read Angels and Demons instead:)

But I just bought it and I got though 220 pages in one night!!

The Sookie Stackhouse Series, by Charlaine Harris.

Why I want it: Vampires, Werewolves, and other occult phenomena--occuring in the modern American South. It sounds soooo interesting, and all of my friends who have read this series are in love with it!
Why I can't have it: I can't afford it :sad

    HP6
Why I want it: Because I love HP, and I have been wanting this one since the end of book 5 (because I want more HP, despite 5 being a bit of a let down).
Why I can't have it: I can't afford it--but my GF is bringing it, along with her smexy self, tomorrow :dance

Oh my...a Brust fan. I'm looking forward to the next Vlad book. Brust says in his blog that Dzur is now in the editing process.

As far as the books being expensive....I grab it from my library. :smile-big
Are you in Japan? And can't get a hold of a copy?

Yeah, most of the time I'm in Japan, and American/English bookstore have really HIGH prices, lol.
I went back to London two month ago, but when I heard of Burst's books, I had already left London ( darn it to heck, lol)
(But since I bought an insane amount of Terry Pratchett's books, I'm still happy X3)

THAT's a GREAT book, lol. (Westley never dies!)

If you really want to enhance your understanding of Da Vinci code and Angels and Demons, read Holy Blood Holy Grail.

Because of that book, I got through Da Vinci code in just 2 nights.

The Historian is a pretty good book.

I wanted anything by Robert Cormier and Caroline Thompson. Also, Interviw With A Vampire. Actually, something doing with the supernatural will do for me.

If you want to read intelligent stuff, and I *really* mean intelligent, you need to read Umberto Ecco's Foucault?s Pendulum.
Really, I mean it. DaV.Code is not really a great book, IMHO.
But Ecco's books are a bit elitist, and that can turn out to be a problem.
(in In the Name of the Rose, he didn't translate at all the latin parts of his books, so...)

HP7, of course. Hp6 just made it really interesting, made me wonder about Harry's last book.
Digital Fortress was released back in 1997 if I'm not mistaken, so it's quite old, and from what I heard it has inaccuracies about crypto. Still, it's thrilling Dan Brown style.
I wanted to read Romance of Three Kingdom, 'cause I played the Dynasty Warriors series, which made it interesting :)

Dune is the best science fiction book I've ever read. You shouldn't have much trouble finding it at a library though.

I'm dieing to read the final book in Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series. I'd like to buy it, since I have the rest of the series, but its so freakin expensive. I'll be getting it from the library soon.

Not really any books at all except for Harry Potter 7. That series has made me break records for pages read and number of books, relating to the same character in a series, read. I'm eagerly anticipating this book because there are still so many unanswered questions that should be answered. That and the fact that this book kinda got me into reading.

Ugh, I've been trying to get the Dune series (or at least the first one) but I can't ever get to the library, and I doubt I'll be able to buy the damn thing.
