Anyone notice how the concept of "chakra" in Naruto is exactly like "Spirit Energy" in Yu Yu Hakusho? (Spirit Energy is also based on combination of spiritual and physical power)

The concept of Chakra(Although in a different form than seen in Naruto) existed in Japanese culture/religion/mythology/whatever before either anime was made.

You are also very hilarious Squirtle.

Chakra, as said, has been around in Culture along time. So has Spirit Energy. So we could say it is all unoriginal! :p

Kishimoto the original manga (Comic) creator said 'Chakra is like Ki in Dragonball and Force in Star wars.' The original idea of Chakra comes from buddist and Hindu beliefs. Its very similar to the chinese belief of Ki or Chi which are spiritual energies.

In Hinduism and in some related Asian cultures, a chakra is thought to be a nexus of metaphysical and/or biophysical energy residing in the human body. The New Age movement, and to some degree the distinctly different New Thought movement, have also adopted and elaborated on this theory.

Okay... you should read up on japanese culture because Naruto and YuYu Hakusho were both created in Japan.

    Not America.

God, I can't believe I'm explaining this to you.

I thought the whole concept of Ki, Chakra, Spirit energy etc where pretty much a common element in Asian culture is general. Going by that fact then it would only natural for a JAPANESE show to have energy types falling into these categories. Just like in western culture they use magic.

^ That's essentially what the chakara system is.

Or at least the chakara points. It's used by Chinese traditional doctors in acupuncture even to this very day.

One of my dad's friend who actually has her own clinic and practices this, has a picture very much like the one above in her office. It looks really cool.

So yah, chakara's definitely not original. Well, lots of things in Naruto aren't 'original, original' so much as inspired by the culture and philosophies of general East Asia.

What I find interesting with many things Japanese... is that the originality of their style lies not in the 'production' of anything per-say, but rather in the transforming of what already 'is' into something that's just well... different? Cooler?

I mean with anime alone it's like

    Spoiler: this

    Spoiler: into this

But... to get back on topic.

Chakara also existed in Buddhism in India, and still today is sort of used in the process of meditation.

Chakra or chakara means power in Japanese. ;) It's commonly used, so don't think Naruto is unoriginal because of it.

Well, it's not exactly original, because I have a book about it (non-naruto wise)..

I know you're just a troll, but you still must be pwned nonetheless. Naruto was made in Japan and that's that.

lol, part of me is glad that squirtle is back since I never got the chance to see him in his prime before he got banned the first time with that nonsense of pokemon being a rip of naruto. Honestly I think the reason he was unblocked was because, as sad is it might be, he was actually serious about that whole pokemon naruto thing. Poor, poor, child manga is not a fruit, it's just the term for japanese comic book. You should definitely brush up on your japanese culture before comming here.

I disagree. Naruto is a Shonen manga and so of course it has to stick with the elements of it's genre, such as powers or whatever, but that doesn't neccessarily make it unoriginal. It's just like how basically every shojo story has a love triangle or whatever. So yeah, Naruto has alot of the same stuff you'll see in other shonen stories but I still think that Masashi Kishimoto managed to make a pretty good story nonetheless.:nod

Of course it's not orignal. You can learn that from simply taking martial arts. :laugh
