    Who:
Me, you and everyone else that chooses to participate.

    What:
Keeping track of habits and holding eachother accountable to maintaining them due to point-based game systems that punish laziness. Setting important tasks that one wishes to be completed (ie; completing a school project, washing the dishes, anything you think is worth listing to remind yourself to complete) and creating habits that are to be repeated consistently (ie; reading a little every day, taking the dog for a walk, meditating in the morning, doing at least 2 hours of focused creative work a day, etc).

It's entirely up to you what tasks and habits you set for yourself. It can be as little or big as you want them to be depending on your life. The important part is setting them and completing them.

    Where:
The Habitica app which is available on iPhone, Android and . I've created a party and will invite everyone there, where we will build up points by completing tasks and doing our habits and lose points if someone neglects theirs. We'll use points to buy stupid stuff like armor and weapons, and will level up our skills meanwhile. It's stupid but addictive. There's also an in-app chat to heckle and praise eachother on.

    When:
    Now and indefinitely.

    Why:
Habits are things you do whether or not you're in a good mood, are having a good day, or feel up for it. They're things you do while on autopilot, and hence when good habits are built, you become massively more productive. Gameifying this system adds an element of psychological reward, encouraging you to keep using the app and keep building your habits (which in turn program your brain in the real world), and a party system where other peoples' neglect hurts you in the game there is social accountability involved, which is super powerful.

    How:
    1. Download and install the Habitica app on your phone (it's free) or simply .

    2. Create your account; you'll need an email, username and password.

    3. Post your user-id (not username) in this thread and I'll add you to the party.
    Spoiler: How to do this

On desktop just click on your avatar/profile and it's right there

    For mobile it's
drop down menu -> gear icon on the top right -> API

Just copy paste it in this thread.
    4. Hold eachother accountable in keeping up with their habits/tasks and start slaying pixellated monsters.

    Final note:

Signing up on the website (note: you don't have to download anything on desktop):

Literally 10 seconds. You'll choose your character's appearance and then you'll access the app.

Once you access the app you'll get to manage your habits, dailies (daily tasks) and to-dos (general tasks). You don't have to fill them all, use them or don't use them according to what you think is best for you.

Note: don't over-fill with every little thing you want to do. This is for important, specific things you want to stay on top of. Overwhelming yourself with a long list of tasks dissuades you from making sure you complete them. If it's something as simple as "drink water instead of coke" and that's it, all the power to you. The point is to build habits you want to build, and to stay on top of tasks you want to complete.

    Mobile:

    Find the app, install it.

Once you setup your shit, you get to set your stuff.

You'll notice a "party" option on the drop-down menu. This is where you will see me and other people after you've joined. Just accept the invite and you'll be in.

Once you're in the party and you've chosen your habits, all that's left is to do your habits and tasks and check in with the app. If you start slacking over time, you'll lose points and party members will get on your case. If you do the stuff you're supposed to, you build points and level up and keep the gears rolling.

That's your username, there's a more unnecessarily unique user id associated with your account which I need to add you to the party (usernames won't work)

On the desktop website you can find it right on your profile:

On mobile you can access it with
Drop-down menu -> gear icon on the top right > API

It seems like a very intriguing idea. I have seen apps like that around, but never joined them. I am thinking I will give this a try. Once I set up the account, I'll share my User ID

Welcome David to the clan. Our force is growing strong. :catbuff

Awesome. There are habit related apps around, but this one is unique in that it gameifies the process and incorporates the social element. Both are super effective in keeping you engaged and on top of your stuff.

Tell you what. Don't promise to stick around, just try to reach level 10 before me. At the end of the day the important part is that your personal habits, tasks and goals are healthy and thriving. :handshake

  24. Low key want to get this app so I can create my little person but also this sounds incredibly fun and like a cool concept :caticon

We'll keep your spot warm. :handshake

    Sounds good. :catdance

I recommend you start super super small. Something like 'Read 5 pages' as your daily task and 'jump to start something productive for at least 2 minutes at least once' for your habit. Then make sure you do it for like a week. Once you get a week in a row of honoring them (and subsequently not losing HP) you can think about adding a little bit more depending on your interests and goals. But start out small first. If you read more than 5 pages, that's your god given right. If you work more than 2 minutes, you're in fuckin' Murrica, ain't nobody stopping you. But the requirement for the habits should start small to get you to do it.

Of course it's up to you tho. Imma be on your ass to keep up either way. :cat
