The odd thing here is that people are literally fleeing the US into Canada right now, and not the opposite way around. If anything, this would basically box in US citizens. It's like Trump doesn't want anyone to escape while he burns the country to ashes. Like a murder-suicide pact.

Hey this is an unfair comparison.

Nero was actually a very liked and competent Emperor. Wasn't even near Rome when the fire started and actually lead relief efforts for the people in the city. (Main reason Nero is hated is that the historians at the time were pro senate and senate was basically in an undeclared war with the Emperors.)

Please tell me that the majority of Republicans are not seriously this insane to believe Canada is our enemy....

@Nemesis: Nero may have not started the fire, but he blamed it on Christians and other non-Roman deity worshippers amd persecuted them.

For me it is the opposite....I only have American citizenship because I was born there....I plan to have my Mexican citizenship within a couple of months. And after years of saving, most likely retire and live in Mexico :tomato!

It helps that it has universal healthcare and cost of living is lower....being paid in pesos however will be a downer (unless you are a corporate, however) but I will only live part of the year and ultimately will retire after saving money.

Uk, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Italy are enemies and trade wars are to be had.

    Smh.

The last time I was at the border (like a year ago) I had to wait like an hour to get back into the US. It wasn't even a big name crossing. It was like some random crossing in Vermont.

We need less border with Canada, not more.

The Canadian side of the border is pretty straight forward, but the US border agents are assholes in general at their best, idiotic assholes at their worst.

Trump said that they've been unfair toward the US and that the trade tariffs were uncalled for, so it must be true and Canada is a national security risk :zaru

Which is asinine considering Trump started this whole mess.

50 years from now, school kids studying history may look upon this time of history and think "wow, the US really went full retard."

    Serious question.

The company that recently hired me has offices in Canada as well. In time, I might request a transfer. Which passport would you recommend I move with, Italy or US?

There is of course a lot of border trading going on, but mostly in the other direction.

The famous example is that Norwegians often go to Sweden to buy alcohol because our booze tax is lower than theirs.

It doesn't really matter, because our system is points based, and as long as you have good standing, and an existing permanent offer on tap, you can begin the transition process, as long as you meet the existing requirements. Look up the details and full criteria necessary on the immigration website, and call them if you have any questions.

    Good luck

I know that, considering I've tried moving there before. I went on an Italian passport but they gave me permission to stay a month rather than the six that's specified on the website. I'd figured then that the allotted time is at the discretion of the customs agent and I'd have a better chance with my US passport.

But yeah, on the whole you're right in that if I have a full-time position promised (which would be the case given we're talking about a transfer rather than finding a new job), I wouldn't have the same concerns I did back then.

    Thanks mang :brofist
