Dude, one of the first thing's Missy did was call the Doctor her boyfriend.

    What do you think ?

I for one would not allow a child under 10 years old watch Jack Harness, kids should be able to know right from wrong before they are brought up thinking that gay is normal.

That's my problem with Female who, does that mean River Song is bisexual? Our protagonist is trans? HaHahahaha

And fuck off to the actress that accepted this role or any actress that would, in doing so you are outright making the statement that you would disgrace a show that's rich in history just to get some leftist agenda pat on the back and participation awards. Change the title to Nurse Who, she's not deserving of the title Dr.

-RIP Dr who 1963-2019 death by progressive agenda

To illustrate the point of it is never enough, Anita beamed down from her spaceship and told us ignorant plebs having a female Doctor is not enough and we need to address the race, queer and trans "problems" in tandem, or else it doesn't count.

    And it begins.

Then I pity your kids for being taught homophobia at such a young age.

Not like the show's said few times that the Doctor can be a woman, or that timelords have changed gender. No sir.

Damned gays be damned ruining our fantasy television harumph harumph burn at the stake.

Homophobia is a bullshit word to begin with, it implies that people fear homosexual behavior. The fact of the matter is "homophobes" disagree with deviant behavior.

Where does this shit end? When people start marrying animals? Start marrying automobiles? When people marry objects like pencils or sharpies and adopting a child who has to call said pencil mother or father? This world is going to crumble upon itself because soon kids will grow up being taught that two men or two women can properly raise a child when in reality crime in households without a mother and father has been teaching us the opposite for years.

If the BBC is predictable, and they are to an extent, I think it's likely they will keep the gender dynamic so the next companion will be a male. An entirely female cast would alienate all the boys, and they're trying to avoid alienation - clearly.

The things is, Doctor Who does require change to work. It has pushed some boundaries, but it's a culturally family-oriented show, so it cannot change too many things at once. It tries to move with the times. That means it is both political and cultural sci fi. For the most part it's leaned towards social progress, but never radical change. The more luggage it gathers as an old show, the more campy it becomes. I don't think they can escape that and embrace radical change - and the writers aren't keen on ditching it either.

There are decent lore explanations for gender-regenerations from the old show but none of the new writers have really expressed their preference for what is canon - to reserve creative freedom for future seasons. How they retcon the old lore is still undecided, and I don't think they'll settle it entirely because keeping an air of mystery is necessary to allow the show to change continuously. All we need are hints.

The short story is that changing gender is a Time Lord feature they've engineered to bypass sterility and other laws forced on them. The limits on regenerations is also an artificial limit imposed by law, not nature.

The Time Lords were sterilised by their previous rulers, the Pythia. Rassilon led a revolution against their leadership based on technological innovation to advance their civilisation and overcome this Pythian curse. This involved radically altering their culture and replacing magic with technology.

The most canon explanation for the survival for the race are the looms, weaves that create new Time Lords by stringing together random DNA sequences. These were invented by Rassilon and also controlled by his government, which basically allowed him to develop complete population control. Understandably, that worried some people. They got a lot of power from his innovations but at the price of self-determination. So he was a bit better than the Pythians but also authoritarian like them.

Later it turned out some Time Lords weren't completely sterile, and Rassilon passed a law to deny womb-born Galleifreyans to ascend with the title of Time Lord. Some disobeyed those laws, and that's supposedly how the Doctor was born to a human and a Time Lord.

The lore universe has no explanation of what happened to looms and population control after Rassilon's death, but we are left with the explanation that some Time Lords are sterile, and some aren't. This is also related to the laws governing how many regenerations are permitted.

Without any further explanations since the relaunch of Doctor Who in 2005, I think it's fair to assume the Time Lords still use looms, and some kids are still womb-born. How much stigma remains against the natural births is a different matter. New writers can change this if they please, but completely ignoring this would be very lazy. The trick is to explain it by respecting the old lore and creating new lore that makes sense.

I'd rather they just drop the loom stuff from canon. That'd probably be for the best.

And really, I meant the show would become even worse at blatantly espousing leftist views. There were already a few cringeworthy moments of that in this season. If they do an epiode propagating the myth of the wage gap, I'm out.

Finally saw Eaters of Light. It was okay I guess, but again the entire potential of this story was kind of torpedoed by having very little time to build up. Inbetween establishing locations and the token sketchy characters one has to sadly expect in one part stories of this show, there really was only a very little time developed to propperly escalating the menace. The resolution also felt a bit too easy. Yes they are trying to stop the thing from eating the Sun, but the Romans and Scots just kind of became heart felt allies a bit too quickly due to, again, the run time.

Also it felt rather lame that this is the threat the Doctor would just literally devote the rest of time to holding back.

In addition, wouldn't the Time Lords do something about it ? I mean, I don't see why they wouldn't intervene eventually to avoid everything including themselves being destroyed. Now that Gallifrey is back, there's really no excuse to avoid that possibility in situations like this.

Yes they wouldn't need to because the Doctor would prevent the Earth from being destroyed but it's something that would happen eventually, should he fail.

Also let me ask: what was the purpose to go on about that one black dude being gay ? He never factored into the story beyond being a background character, so it felt about as pointless as "Thin one and Fat one". Just doing a quick virtue signal and then forgetting about it.

I started started watching DW since last month. I have catched up till Seventh Series. Well that and first 4 episodes of 12th Doctor.
I have to say it was a pleasant experience so far . I was afraid to start show this old in case it turns out shit in the end but it wasn't. It was consistently good . I liked everyone on it. I liked ALL companions Doctor had so far. Rose, Martha, Donna, River, Amy, Rory, Clara, all of them. I liked all 4 Doctors I have seen so far too. I never tried to compare them as that is fools errand. They all brings something different but essentially good to the table. Admittedly it is taking me some time to adjust to 12th Doctor considering he isn't exactly 'childish' like previous three but that's just me.
I thought of watching older series but it felt like a chore so I didn't. It is really good thing that new series isn't depended on old series in any case.
Well to 5th episode of 8th series then.
P.S.: I read old threads of Doctor Who and I hate to say it but this fandom is terrible. It is in constant state of hysteria by whining over most inane things in show. It is like somewhere along the ride fans forgot that they are fans watching show for enjoyment and not a paid critics whose job is to nitpick over most mundane faults . So called debates like Companion vs Companion or Doctor vs Doctor irritated me most for they were rinse and repeat from every last page. People were throwing words like Mary Sue and bad writing for part they personally didn't like. Way too much sense of entitlement here . If you want to see actually badly written characters and shit writing then I suggest you watch some CW superhero show. DW never had that level bad character.
I hope fandom got better later on.

    Spoiler:
    - So that's who the Captain was. Hamish.

    - 1 answering why he left Gallifrey. That's better.

    - The bit on The Doctor's name in his regeneration speech -- ridiculous. Children being the only acceptable people to learn of The Doctor's name? BS. Then explain River Song, Moffat.

    - Billions of years later, how is Rusty not aged into Dalek sewer goop?

    - The gag dialogue on sexism -- so. Much. Cringe.

    - So he gets his memories back.

    - The return of the Rose-Doctor music theme is completely unexpected. And, with the scene it played for, felt ill-placed.

    - The Matrix of Time not having that bit of info within it's database? BS. It's just another excuse to have Rusty the Dalek.

    - Moffat's theme and point on memories -- personally, I disagree. It's applicable for an identity, but to a particular extent.

    - Thought a huge missed, or rather severely downplayed, opportunity regarding 1 questioning the future about him being 'The Doctor of War' as he's reputed to his enemies, as well as the future of loss and the kind of life that The Doctor leads with influx of companions.

    - Would have been nice that the TARDIS would have been outright acknowledged by 1 and 12 as being their constant, and appreciated more overall by the episode, instead of being taken for granted and often put to the background. However, her chiming in bit during 12's regeneration was very welcome.

    - 12's regeneration -- DAMN.

    - 13's debut -- not much.

    - Goddamn, what a cliffhanger to end on.

Christmas special was heavy on the feels and light on plot.
    I don't mind that actually.
I only wish that they had told us what happened to real Bill and Nardole.
Was First Doctor always that slow on uptake ?
It took awfully lot time for him to understand that he is meeting his future self. It shouldn't have taken that long for someone with Doctor's intellect.
Anyway it was good enough episode and I am excited for the new Doctor. She seems to be similar to 10th and 11th on whole overenergetic thing. 'Brilliant' seems to be her word.
We will see how that goes.

    Seriously?
She didn't. Hey girlfriend turned her into whatever creature she was. They are still roaming the universe.
We were in some billion years future so maybe at some point she died but she definitely didn't die as Cyberman.
That literally happened in last episode.
