Back in the old days, Dr. Strange was a walking deus ex machina.

Gandalf the White is a terror to behold in the novels.

    Who wins?

If one is too powerful than the other (i.e. DEM Strange over White Gandalf or vice-versa), then depower the more powerful to current Strange or Grey Gandalf respectively (novels or movies, depending on inflation).

Dr. Strange is quite a bit stronger than any form of Gandalf shown in the movies. I don't know about the books though.

Dr. Strange in the comics could take out half the marvel universe if he wanted to. I don't know much about Gandalf, thought he was the guy from Harry Potter at first... But unless he can take out the hulk, Thanos, Silver Surfer, Dormamu and Doctor Doom at the same time, then ol stevie needs to be depowered.

Gandalf is a Maia, which is an angelic (you could say cosmic) being, though his power is limited on earth.

Gandalf's power hasn't been witnessed since he has only been portrayed in his physical form, his spiritual form in general is far more powerful though the problem with the whole LotR world is that 'magic' is very passive

    I'm giving this to Strange

Magic users aren't exactly my forte.

I will however vote Gandalf for bias though.

From what I've seen of both, I would give this to Strange with relative ease.

Strange using all his items was able to hold off Warlock with the Infinity Gauntlet.

    And hes Old!
(I'm afraid i've only watched the film, so i can't really defend him as his magic was very watered down)

The cosmic powers of Dr.Strange beats the old wizard.
I'm sorry Gandalf but this one you won't win.
