FMA takes place in 1914 or so, but how could they have such advanced things as Automail when they dont even have TVs? I guess Winry is just that smart...

Well, if Alchemy is possibly, why not automail? But I do kind of wonder when Ed gets thrown into our world, how he still has automail (maybe I'm getting things mixed up though..)

Their world has technology very limited. Automail is the only thing we see ahead of us.

hey its fictional, wut do u expect? plus the Ed's world is different from the world he is in. so u would kinda expect things to happen in his world that doesnt normally happen in ours.

Well I thought that Armestris (or however you spell it) is an alternate reality where Alchemy flourished and it "our world" science flourished instead. That's why when he crossed over he had that flimsy prosthetic arm.

Or I could just be wrong :p

In the last ep when Ed is in munich, his hand clearly shows he has automail, so we can say he keeps his automail.

well in naruto its still like the olden days with ninjas but they have TV's! and i havent seen anyone use a gun yet..

But what ever happened to the idea of creative thinking? Im sure putting automail and alchemy into the early 1900's can be like adding frosting to a cake, a cake doesn't need it but it sure is good with it :laugh !

I think the technology of automail came first before the creation of internal combustion engines and aerodynamic structures

Well, have you ever thought about why it's 1914 and people can create spears from the ground?

    :p

Hey guys, I thought that Ed had prostetic (wooden) limbs when he was at "our" world or Munich. It didnt seem like he had an automail because of the way he move. I could be wrong, pls no flames. Im going to rewatch it again

Ok, im really really getting confused. I just watched the last episode, and during the train ride it showed the automail, but if you go back to the part where he is talking to his dad (...btw the time on the video is around 19:50 to 21:00...watch that part then watch the very end for the automail arm), it looked like his arm was made of wood and he couldnt move it that much (thats why he was fixing his stuff with his left hand)...im really getting confused about this, can someone upload pix of it to compare (i dont know how, sorry about that ^_^ )

Even though the mirror world of the FMA world is our world in 1914, which it is, b/c of the london air-raids and churchil and stuff, it still doesn't mean that automail is not possible in the FMA world, I mean, they have alchemy, and animals being fused together to form chimeras.

In the FMA movie ed has wooden limbs.

It confused me. Ed clearly had his automail at munich at the last ep.

The world of Alchemy and the real world were seperated by a gate......the events and technology were different between those two......

I didn't know that FMA was set somewhere in the early 1900s. :)

But, basing the technology presented by the show, I guess it's only safe to say that FMA is an anime, and a form of fiction. :D

But then again, I've only seen seven episodes so far... don't blame me for my answer.
