    First let's start with facts

    1. Netero trained on the mountain for 4 years and developped his Hyakushikki Kannon

    2. Netero became so strong that from there he entered everyfight throughout his life as a challenger and became bored of it.

    3. Netero was seeking a challenge, a fight where he wouldn't be the favorite but an underdog, he wanted to fight someone stronger than him. Meruem is the one who gave him this challenge and Netero was grateful for it.

Those are manga canons and cannot be refuted.

Now the speculation based on what we know.

    1. Since Netero was grateful for meeting Meruem and finally fulfilling his wish it's safe to assume nobody else Netero has fought since developing his Kanon managed to defeat him therefore we can conclude Netero hasn't lost a single fight from his mountain training up to the Meruem battle.

    2. Netero was a sparring partner of Ging/Botobai, knew the Zoldycks very well and was Beyond's father, if any of them were stronger than him then he'd have fought against them and wouldn't thank Meruem for fulfilling his wish as it would've already been done.

    3. Netero is selfish and not a very moral guy, he was ready to sacrifice all the hunters' lifes to have his fight with Meruem, he even used the name card to force him to fight, he would've wanted a battle no matter how close to the opponent he is and would've found a way to force anyone into a battle with him if he knew it could satisfy his wish.

Therefore we arrive to the conclusion that Ging,Maha,Beyond and any other human Netero knows or has fought cannot be stronger than him because it would go against what we know of Netero and his motives behind the CA Arc.

That's just the conclusion you arrived at, but it's not the unanimous conclusion.

Sparring =/= a fight to the death. We don't know if all of the Zodiacs "sparred" with Netero either, and if anything, Ging's actions suggest he wasn't around to toy with Netero very often. I'm not sure why people want so badly for Netero to be on a different level than Ging, but not only is it not that serious, it's extremely presumptive.

I didn't say the sparring meant Netero was stronger rather that the sparring would let Netero know if Ging was stronger then him and Netero would've tried to fight him seriously if it was the case, we've already seen the measures he can take to get what he wants (throw Morel and his team to the wolves, send Gon to Pitou with a smile on his face).

Netero wouldn't give up and just let someone who can give him the challenge he's waited for 6 decades simply wander around, he'd try to fight him at all cost

    Netero's not that selfish.

You're under the impression Netero is so selfish that he would endanger the lives of others (or in Ging's case become a murderer) to get what he wants, but that's not true. He takes calculated risks, not blind ones. The reason he taunted Meruem was because he had the Rose Bomb as a last resort. He took a risk there because he could.

You're really twisting Netero's character here. He wouldn't kill his friend to satiate his bloodlust.

Netero probably wanted to have a serious fight with Ging, but being the guy he is; Ging probably didn't give a shit and never took him up on the offer.

I wouldn't like the idea of ging being just as strong as netero. It would be no fun because whenever there's a strong opponent, ging will just come and kick his ass. It may be better if his level as a fighter was below that of netero.

You mean like how he came and helped with the Chimera Ants? Ging has no interest in going around fighting strong opponents and saving people. He's too busy doing his own thing.

However; would you like the idea of Hisoka being as strong as Netero?

What kind of reasoning is this?

This could be true with any strong character in any work of fiction...

Making him strong doesn't necessarily have to make his presence in every fight essential.

if netero was the strongest, then how come they say he was the strongest 50 years ago. why not just call him the strongest right now? Id assume its because others have grown stronger

Hisoka is most likely going to end up more dangerous than mereum.

And yea ging is an asshole. Leaves his son dealing with OP stuff while he's busy exploring the world. What a monster of a father really.

He better develop a new Hatsu then. Bungee Gum, cards, and his fists wouldn't be any sort of threat to Meruem. He's honestly laugh those off and not feel a thing. As things currently stand; Hisoka is fodder compared to the King.

Ging is awesome. He's a terrible father, but an amazing Hunter and a genius Nen user. I can't wait to see him get more panel time. He's already been pretty impressive with the little we've seen of him

No matter how you look at it this is solid evidence.

    Netero being grateful for meeting Meruem prove it. His sentence about how finally at his age he'll be a challenger prove it, he thought he would never be able to get what he's been seeking but Meruem appears and make Netero's dream come true. He give a sense to Netero' training and goal to reach the ultimate martial arts, a chance to use everything he has and fight to his limits for the first time since his mountain training;

And for those who think Netero wouldn't convince Ging to fight him you're naive, it was the most important thing for him, fighting someone whose stronger as the underdog. He's been waiting 6 decades for someone stronger than him to show up and it only happened thanks to Meruem, no way he'd sleep on Ging or anyone potentially stronger than him, it's not like Netero could predict someo ant king would eventually show up

Netero isn't a good guy, he didn't take calculated risks, sending Gon,Killua,Morel,Knuckle,Shoot and Knov to fight Royal Guards wasn't calculated risk, they only survived because Youpi let them live and thanks to Meleoron's abilities which Netero didn't even know about.

Netero was totally willing to let them die to have his fun, he even tell the King that his subordinates might be already dead when to ensure the King will fight him.

What's to say that Ging was weaker than Netero at the time of their last sparring match, but he became stronger than him afterwards? Not like the two had constant contact. And even if Netero were to find out, Ging is damn near impossible to find.

Not saying Ging is for sure stronger, but he's also not for sure weaker. The dude having the most hype out of any human Nen user has to stand for something after all.

Ging doesn't have te most hype out of any human nen user, Netero is implied to have never lost a fight since the mountain training and it is obvious that Ging wasn't the strngest human nen user otherwise Biscuit would have said it (remember that she's quoting Netero whose words were meant to hype Ging, he'd have said "the strongest" insted of "top 5" had he been the most powerful).

And Ging isn't near impossible to fight as Kite found him eventually on his own, Netero wouldn't have much trouble finding him with the association ressources and his superior hunter skills.

What say Ging is weaker than Netero is the fact that only Meruem could give Netero the challenge he'd been seeking and finally grant him a loss, nobody else could do the job not Maha, not Beyond, not Ging.

    Even Netero wording about how he will finally have the chance to be a challenger at his age imply he had lost hope to find someone whose strength is superior to his;

There's lots of arguments to be had. Bisky only said Ging was one of the top 5 Nen users instead of the strongest, but she never said anything about Netero even being in that top 5. So that argument goes both ways.

Could argue that Ging refused to show his true strength, Netero had a lot of respect for the Zodiacs; doubt he'd go around killing them if they disobeyed some of his wishes. Not like Ging seeks out fights with people.

Kite more than likely knew Ging a lot better than Netero did. So there's a chance he would've been able to better predict his movements. Netero would've had many resources at his disposal, but remember what Kurapika said about Ging? "He has the power and wealth of a president." The Zodiacs had a lot at their disposal, yet not even they were capable of locating Ging.

One of the main things that should be considered; is the fact that Netero has been shown to over exaggerate things.

Biscuit said Netero told her Ging was top 5 that's it, Netero has neither been said to be in or out of the top 5 however the fact that he has never lost a fight (proved by his inner-thoughts during the CA Arc and his motives behind fighting Meruem) mean it's more than unlikely he is anything but 1st.

Imagine Netero not being a top 5 nen user and still not finding someone stronger than him willing to fight him? That really make no sense .He wouldn't need Meruem if there were 5 people able to best him

About Netero not knowing Gings true strength first of all it's unlikely he didn't know about him when he saw Ging as a child passing the hunter exam + just feeling someone's nen can give you a vibe of his power.

Netero probably know Ging just as well as Kite actually, Netero saw Ging take the exam at the age of 12 and chose him as a Zodiac while Kite was only trained by him for a few years up to a decade t the very best.

Also there are definitely ways for the Hunters to contact Ging otherwise he wouldn't have known about Netero's death.

He's been shown to make trollish statements, all I'm talking about are either Netero's inner thoughts as he's fighting Meruem or serious Netero being excited cause Colt told him his aura was weaker than that of the Royal Guard let alone the King.

Or it means that Ging just refused to properly fight him, which would fit Ging's character perfectly.

The fact that he only managed to get Morel and Knov to go with him, even when the stakes were so dire, means Ging is always busy or can't be arsed to do something that's not in their personal interest.

For what reason would a top 5 nen user fight old Netero?

    1) He's not in his prime anymore. As he states himself, he's dropped to around Morel's or Knov's level. Even with all the training he did pre-Mereum fight, who knows how far off his prime he was.
    2) This is not a generic manga, where strong guy goes after other strong guy without any personal gain or logical motivation. At that point one of the top 5 nen users would have had to be the challenger, because Netero had Hunter HQ to manage.

Netero would find a way to force him into a fight, he was ready to let the hunters die so he could fight Meruem, Ging love challenges too and is a very competitive guy.

Netero didn't only manage to get Morel and Knov, he only wanted them. He choose Morel and Knov because of their powers which would allow him to eliminate Ants one by one and are perfect for an extermination mission.
It's another evidence of Netero's selfishness, he didn't want guys like Ging or Botobai to come help him because he wanted to do the fighting himself, Knov/Morel were his 1st choices.

The question you should ask is : For what reason would Netero not fight someone stronger than him? There aren't any, the King didn't want to fight but Netero forced him to do so. He is a devious man not someone you can tell to fuck off, if he wants something he'll do everything to get it.
Just like Ging and Pariston once they have a goal set in mind they won't give up til they accomplish it.

He hasn't dropped around Morel's or Knov's lvl, they say he is being modest and still is much stronger than them + later when Netero shows his nen to Colt Morel state that Netero is something else and out of their leagues.
Netero being out of his prime mean very little because we know he hasn't been defeated by anyone despite being old.

Wrong this totally is the case for Netero, the only reason behind the Palace Invasion plan was for Netero to fight Meruem 1 on 1 and get his wish to be a challenger for the first time since reaching the "ultimate martial arts". All of his training felt wrong because nobody could best him or force him into a fight where he wouldn't be the overwhelming challenger, Meruem is the one who finally gave Netero what he had wished for to happen for 6 decades : a battle against a stronger foe.

Netero didn't invade the palace to save humanity, if he truly cared about humanity first then he'd have blown up himself right in the middle of the palace where all 3 Royal Guards + the King stood, he wouldn't have tried to separate the King from his Royal Guard nor would he have risked the lifes of many hunters for his own agenda.

Yeah except Netero had to fight Meruem because you know he was a threat to the entire world...

Plus Netero wouldn't be able to force Ging to do jack shit if Gon's stubbornness is anything to go by.

Netero didn't have to fight Meruem he had to kill him which he could've done by dropping the fucking bomb.

Netero wanted to fight against Meruem for personal reasons.

I think " top 5 nen users " doesn't equate to being the top 5 fighters. There many ways to use nen. For example, netero spent a lifetime training in martial arts and his hatsus are all about combat. He is the fighter nen user type, while ging doesn't look like he is all about combat, he is a lot about exploration and misteries.

Knov and morel too, they are high tier nen user but their abilities aren't all about combat. I think ging has high combat abilities but he is not above netero, nor he is equals.

No he hasn't Ging himself admitted he didn't expect Pariston to resign as chairman at all.

All Ging has done is predict Pariston's moves without knoving the purpose behind it, he doesn't understand Pariston's motives or mentality at all, only the ways he use.

    1) Anyone who reaches that level of power like Maha has trained that intensely.

    2) We haven't seen zzigg, he's either dead or he's alluka most likely. Either way, this is more than enough reason for netero to exempt maha from his attack list because of respect/guilt of having led to maha's son's death/transformation into something that more or less means zzigg is in a vegetable state.

    3) What I said with 2.

    1) That's a horrible reach and there is no evidence of that, plus evidence 2 and 3.

    2) Don't think ging and botobai are stronger than netero so whatever, however meruem was objectively superior while someone around netero's level wouldn't have given him that thrill.

    3) Netero is selfish, okay?

In the end we can almost objectively say that don could kill netero and the most reliable source of information made maha more impressive than netero, maybe not to the level of meruem but maha was stronger, netero probably talked zzigg into going and then when he was lost in someway, netero left maha alone.
