Without them I wouldn't even be listening to music. They really opened up my musical taste and then that allowed me to enter other genres. I'd say they're even tied with Jay-Z and Lupe Fiasco as my favorite artists. I have all their albums.

I was completely wrong before. Tokyo Jihen are my 1a band, but my 1b band is clearly Fujifabric, one of the more eclectic and affecting pop groups I've heard from any nation. There's also profound sadness with them due in the the band's founder/leader/songwriter/everything Masahiko Shimura's out-of-nowhere death two years ago.

I always have a hard time narrowing things down.

On one hand, though I'm not sure I've ever really mentioned it, but I adore the two (I guess 3) artist Jove mentioned, but my other favorites are often Japanese Avant Composers/Jazz/Grindcore/Metal/Whatever that are in league with Zorn and so forth.

    1. Tokyo Jihen
My #1 favourite J-Rock band. At first Shiina (vocalist) annoyed me because she sounded like a cat being run over by a truck, and sounded sloppy. But I let it grow and now she's...a goddess.
    • Ikiru (Live - Ultra C)
    • Killer Tune (PV)
    • Superstar (Live - Dynamite Out)

    2. Blankey Jet City
Basically what I consider to be Tokyo Jihen with male vocalist, less jazz, more nothing bad. Already disbanded, but they've got timeless tunes and they're a "must have" to your music library if you're into J-Rock scene.
    • Bang!
    • Rain Dog
    • Sea Side Jet City

I'm also very fond of Coaltar of the Deepers, Plastic Tree, cali≠gari, 凛として時雨, D'espairsRay, RENTRER EN SOI, deadman, RADWIMPS, Black:list and about n^n other bands. I listened to pretty much only Japanese music for three or so years and I'm generally bad at naming my favourites.
