Discuss your favorite battle system from any RPG and explain why you like that battle system.

My favorite battle system would have to be the system used in Chrono Trigger. I thought it was awesome how you begin the fight on the actual screen and I liked the duel and triple techs in the game.

I'd have to say Dragon Quest (VIII). Nice and oldskool-ish.

Nice, 3-d free run, lotsof combos, spells and techniques. Multiple difficulties... Yeah :D

Final Fantasy X and X-2's. X was interesting, as you could actually sit there all day if you wanted to and plan out your moves. X-2 was basically the same as VII, VIII, and IX, but faster and more furious.

While it's story was bleh at best, I'd say Grandia had my favorite battle system for an rpg.

Chrono Trigger comes in at a close second making the atb system work well and actually put more emphasis into what teams you had since you had the option of team techs.

I have a few really. I enjoyed the Baten Kaitos battle system since it was really different from anything else i'd played before. Plus, the combos you could pull off were quite sick.

FFX-2 because of how fast it was and it the chain attacks were quite good.

Sadly, i'll never know about Chrono Trigger since i had it on the pc and the file messed up.

Star Ocean 3 had a really nice battle system, but so did Grandia (any of them, really).

I would say it's between those two. But, there should be honorable mentions to Valkyrie Profile 2, and the Tales series.

baten kaitos most definetly. it was much more fun and fast-paced then any other battle system. it has to be my fav rpg battle system of all time, since you could create your own mangus, and stratigically plan out your own magnus deck.

Probably something like Star Ocean or Tales of the Abyss. Action/RPG.
Star Wars KOTOR is exremetly good aswell in their system.

I liked the battle systems for Xenosaga and Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga. They were very strategy based- more so then most games because some attacks will lose you attacks if you pick the wrong type, while others will give you extra turns if they are the right type. Tales of Symphonia also had a great battle system.

This is a good question, I really like alot of them. KotOR, FFV, Star Ocean, Tales of series, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound. Those are some that I really enjoyed, but in the end it just seems like I am simply listing RPGs that I liked :( I think I will go with KotOR, it was turn based and strategic, but set up in a a way that made it seem real time and fast.

I rather enjoyed Legend of the Dragoon's battle system, but close seconds would be Grandia, all of them really, Valkyrie Profile was good.

I like the active controls, rather than passive pick and choose commands.

Once I get it, G.U. because it's a free-roaming RPG/Action sort of thing. What comes in a very, VERY close tie was DQVIII's system.
