    Yami and others

For those of you that might have gained the chance to play it already, or for those of you that read the article, express what your thoughts are. I know a large amount of people are saying they have lost a good deal of faither in FF, due to all of the people leaving, FFX-2 (or X for that matter), and various other reasons. Do you believe that the change to the battle system and the current approch will end FF for good and make it the Final Final Fantasy? Though the japanese fanbase doesn't seem to be decreasing, it is the american fanbase that is. And with RPG's like Tales of Symphonia coming about more and more it looks like tuff times for the good old Original.

Personally, though it will take getting used to from what I read in the article, the different approches they have taken seem like a well fitting idea for the story in which they are trying to present. The characters look well done, and the cinimatics look like a good way to kiss the old PS2 goodbye as it gets pushed to as far is it can go.

I'm in love with it from reading the article. Keeping tabs on the enemies' actions, the mobility factor, and the fact that it's stepping away from the usual Final Fantasy shows S-E is being innovative.

Despite people's first glance, I think this game will be awesome. A part of me doesn't want to play the demo when I buy Dragon Quest on Tuesday because I don't want to get addicted to it, but.. we'll see.

Well, I'm open for some changes... but I hope they don't completely ruin traditional FF stuff. The battle system still kinda confuses me a little bit but I guess it's better once you experience it yourself (never did play XI). Not alot to say right now, don't wanna start judging before playing it.
And they better still include awesome battle music, victory fanfare, and familiar summon monsters. :yelling :p

There should be. Tactics Advance had Unicorn, Ifrit, Ramuh, Shiva, Kirin, Carbuncle, Phoenix, and Madeen (I read it out of a book.) so you never know. Although in the demo they had listed a summon I'd never heard of.

I didn't like X-2's music. Some songs were okay, but the battle music sounded like re-hashed mixes from a 70's porno movie (trust me on this).

I liked FF9's art, but considering the year it was done, they could've made it MUCH nicer looking. But they rushed it so that they could get out Flunkout Fantasy: The Shitty Spirits Within.

I really want to play XII's demo. But I don't feel like buying a game I don't want for the demo....

You could always rent Dragon Quest and see if the demo will come with it. Who knows.. might end up liking both games.

That's true. Is Dragon Quest like Final Fantasy where you don't have to play the previous one to enjoy the next one. Kinda like a separate game and not a sequel. Cuz if it is, then I might do that.

Well according to the article, the music will still be very good, and I am pretty sure due to how much the normal battle music and victory music is apart of the traditional Final Fantasy, they would more then likely try to work with Nobou in order to be able to still use the music. It isn't like the guy is an asshole.

Since it is based in the Tactics Advanced world, that is the only thing that has me worried. I would have much rather them base it in the original FF Tactics...But I guess that was to hard for them to do based on how FFT ended.

    Here you are, guys.

    Link removed

Just three things though. Surprised no one has heard it though. It's very similar to FF: Tactics Advance.

    Forgot to ask:

When someone actually gets a hold of DQ8 with the demo, can you tell us if they already put in English VAs? If not, then there is the slightest chance that they keep the JP ones (which I am NOT complaining about)

I'm really excited. I've never played DQ, so I'll probably rent so I can play the demo, but it seems amazing. I'm excited.

Personally, from the little two hour demo I played of Dragon Quest (And let me tell you.. I HATED DQ7. I returned it within the hour of purchase and I'm not that heavily biased on RPGs) I fell in love with it. From the demo I can tell you that the main story isn't very complex like a Final Fantasy, but the interactions you make with people in every town you visit would make it an interesting game. To get off my hijack though..

I'll play the demo of Final Fantasy 12 on Tuesday and let you know how it is (Even though I want to buy Wild ARMS: Alter Code F over Dragon Quest at the moment).

I definatly can't wait to try this all out, but I'm wondering if I should just wait for the game instead of going off the Demo.

Though I do hope because of this Demo, Dragon Quest doesn't get the Zone of the Enders Treatment. The "I bought this game for the Metal Gear Solid 2 Demo, then months later as I am looking for somthing to play I wonder when in the hell I bought this game."

Then people finally play Dragon Quest and go "OMG THIS ROCKS."

Granted I doubt it will happen to the extent it happened to Z.O.E (As if I remember it was 2 months after the game released magazines and such STARTED to talk about it, but the Demo was talked about right away).

That's probably Square-Enix's plan, but not quite as much in Japan as it is in America. Honestly, the Dragon Quest of old for some Americans may not have appealed to many, but with the new engine, Dark Cloud-like graphics, and voice acting they need to sell this game as much as possible to end this fiscal year with a bang. So why not tease four million people in Japan and quite possibly another few million in other territories just by offerring a 30+ minute FF12 demo?

I think after this, especially if Dragon Quest stays in this form, the series will be a big hit in America. Right now other than Magna Carta and Wild ARMS: Alter Code F this is one of the only real RPGs out until Kingdom Hearts sometime next year, and most RPG players are going to be craving something.

Yeah, as it stands right now alot of companies are coming out with extremely good RPG's right now. Atlus more then anything is becoming a major player with Shin Megami coming back in full force, and their Tacticle yet Fun RPG's coming out. Square really needs to start getting their games out before they get pushed down to deep.

FF Advent Children helped bring them back up, but with it having yet to be LEGALLY released in the U.S, it is still hurting a bit.

Ya know, with them churning out these vids closer and closer to the release date, it really makes it seem that they are keeping the JP voices for the US version. HOORAY!

Well I just played through the demo. My immpression of it is the movie to the game looked really cool, the story seems to be really good, but the battle system... the battle system is what is going to make me not get into this game. I wish they didn't mess with the traditional Final Fantasy battle system, this and FFX-2 are to real time, FFX's battle system was very good i thought FFXII just doesn't seem like a FF game to me...:sad

What about the voices? Did they keep the Japanese VAs?

I would buy Dragon Knight 8 just to play the demo, lol.

    Edit:

I meant to say 'Quest', but somehow the word 'Knight' worked it's way in there.

    Dragon Quest VIII >___>

So you're saying it's like FFX-2's battle system? Nice!! I really liked that one >< I'm probably going to get dragon quest 8...just because of the great review and the bright colorful world. it's pretty enough to make up for the massive headache I get from everything else XD (I have the demo disc of DQVIII)

He's talking about FFXII's system. And no, it's not like that. From what I've seen, it's like the battle system of the .hack games.

Dragon Quest 8 is really cool so far, and what I ment about FFX-2 and FFXII is that they are more real time battle systems, FFXII is like, you are walking around like a MMORPG and see the enemy like a MMORPG and then when you are close enough a line going from you to your opponent appears, and when you press X a list comes in the bottom left hand of the screen and you can attack etc... if you choose to attack a ATW bar appears and when it fills up, you attack. I don't know, some people might like it, but it's just not for me unfortunately.

I was told that the voices are still in japanese, but pretty much everything is in english, I don't think you can acess the menus and do much customization.
I'll be playing the demo by tomorrow and be posting here soon. I can't wait for this.
As far as I know ->

The old summons are all gone, no Ifrit, no Shiva, no nothing, stop whining like bitchies fanboys. The summons are now Espers (like the doubtfull localization from FFVI) and they are all lucavi from FFT (this time with decent translation).
Expect dudes like Altima, Velius (new name) and Quecklain (bad spelling probably, but who cares... the original FFT translation was shit as well). Going yo post the right names after I see them, there are 2 summons in the demo.

Can't say I know anything about the battle system, since I didn't played yet, but as far as I know is like FF11, wich is great. You go to the monster, select your action and the ATB will charge, you can choose Active (the monsters couldn't care less about you and will eat your characters alive as you select your actions) or Wait (pussy mode for weaklings I would have to say, you can take your time and select itens and spells from the menu).

Also, the music is very FFTish, the composer as someone pointed before is Hitoshi Sakimoto. IMHO I think he's just perfect for the job, don't take me wrong, I love Nobuo... But, Sakimoto is the man for this job. The music should be great, since he's a great composer. Just listen to some of his works, like Tactics Ogre, Vagrant Story, FFT (godly) and Breath of Fire V (probably his best work) to name a few.

Also, you all can expect a good NA translation, since the dude will be doing the localization did Vagrant Story and this game has one of the best localizations ever.

Well, now I'll go to sleep and later tomorrow (or after tomorrow) I'll be posting my 2 cents on the demo. *urges to sleep*

MEGA EDIT So, as I said my DQ8 arrived and the demo as well.
I didn't get DQ8 just for the demo (in matter of fact, I'm playing DQ8 as a mad man now).
The demo is short and I was expecting some town exploration, you have 2 scenario options and they're a beach and a dungeon.
The Phon Coast it's what I would call the easy scenario, you have the battle set in the Wait (so you have all the time needed to select magic and itens).
In this scenario your party is composed of Vaan, Penelo and Basch.
You can't change their equips or even acess the menu, thet start all in lv 20. Vaan has a one handed sword&shield, Penelo has a Bow and Basch carries a long sword.
They all have some sort of magic, Vaan has mostly black magic and a few White/Green magic.
Basch has only the lv2 black magic, one of each plus water and aero.
Penelo has much more advanced magic than the guys, mostly White magic (including Holy) and some time magic.
Only Vaan can summon Hashmal with the Esper command, you can call the Esper when you have full MP and your 2 other party members will disappear while the esper attacks the enemy, you still control Vaan though. When the Esper is leaving he usually charges his special attack, dealing a lot of damage.

You are given a mission at the start of the demo, you have to defeat 3 kinds of enemy to call the boss, a T-Rex called Rockeater.
The graphics are beautiful and the music is totally FFTish, this game will have one of the best OST ever. You can move around a beach but there are orange little balls that limit the space.
There are 6 kinds of enemy + the boss and one of these won't attack you unless you attack him first, and even will help you if you cast support/cure magic or use itens on him, they're the Madragoras, this monster figths with the Sleipnirs (you have to kill 3 of these to advance).
The spell casting monsters are very smart and will cast support magic before attack you if you miss them, the AI overall is very good.
You have the gambit option that leaves the AI taking care of everything, this is a good option and you'll probably will have the option to customize it on the full game (so the characters won't waste itens and such).
Later I'll tell more of the demo, the other part is cooler than the beach scenario IMO.

My friend recently bought Dragonquest VIII and we played the Final Fantasy XII demo and I gotta say it looks badass, I can't wait to play it sometime next year. I had my doubts but not anymore.

Well the game was reviewed by Famitsu and got perfect scores from all 4 reviewers... 6th game Famitsu has rated perfectly. (Dragon Quest VIII got perfect from 3 reviewers and a 9.0, so almost got perfect...).

I'm not really anticipating the game anymore, especially after playing the demo. Though at the same time I'm glad that they are trying something new for the series.
