During the opening ceremony of the French Bastille Day military parade on July 14, 2019, in Paris, the French defense industry has performed a live demonstration with a flying soldier using the Zapata Flyboard. According to the French army, Special Forces carried out trial tests with this new type of equipment.

At the military parade of French Bastille Day 2019, the Zapata Flyboard has demonstrated its capacity to be used by soldier armed with an individual weapon as an assault rifle, with a flying demonstration at the front of the Presidential tribune. The Flyboard could be the future of modern armed forces to create flying soldier.

The Flyboard Air is a type of jetpack/hoverboard powered by gas turbines. It was developed and designed by the French water-craft rider Franky Zapata, founder of Zapata racing.

According to Zapata Racing, the Flyboard could fly at an altitude of up to 3,000 m and reach a maximum speed of 150 km/h with a maximum autonomy of 10 minutes.

While this is just the beginning it surely is an amazing feat of engineering and any further improvement will just give the usability more justification

Imagine European troops not having to be dropped with parachutes in times of battle but with flyboards - rocketing down on enemies from 3000 meters in the air with over 130 miles per hour speed and all guns blazing

Europe going full anime army on us

The real question is when will a commercial version be available, because outside of specific situations (like a more effective method for Paratroopers as someone already said) I don't see this being overly useful in combat unless there intent is to create a live action, more horrifying version of duck hunt.

It's mostly useful for things like anti terrorist operation. You can easily send soldier on top of buildings or anywhere else by flying.
