A simple question really: what is the point of a jutsu being "forbidden" if everyone and there mother are doing it? Lotus is forbidden, kage bunshin is forbidden, gates are forbidden, Orochimaru's body transfer is forbidden... To me, all forbidden jutsu means is that it kicks ass. Any thoughts?

My theory is that all jounin know forbidden jutsus, they just save it for important times, and are mainly forbidden from using them against each other in practice and stuff.

The "forbidden" in front of the jutsu is just to make i look cooler. The forbidden jutsu is forbidden becuse it's so raw and sexy and the hokages want them all to themself.

They are kinjutsu because they are harmful to the shinobi unless that shinobi is a high level shinobi. Lotus is a kinjutsu for the obvious pain and harm it bring to its user. Kage bushin no jutsu is not a kinjutsu, that's Tajuu Kage Bushi no jutsu but because Kyuubi has influenced Naruto's body it doesn't harm him unless he unleash too much chakra which Naruto's body can't handle as it was stated by Jiraiya. Some are kinjutsu because in order to archive them they must lose any moral sense for human life as Oro's Edo Tensei and his immortality jutsu. Agree with you, they are all kick ass.

So any cool jutsu becomes forbidden seems like a legal enough way of doing it

I dont think the gates are forbidden, its just that they're very dangerous, and the moves(lotuses) that activate them are forbidden.

Naruto's mass clone, Henge, jutsu is forbidden but that doesnt make much sense since about every other ninja has their own version of it.

Clones are kinda like replications made out of thin air. The main thing about his clones are that they can use full powered jutsus, along with neji not seeing through it.

I think that the reason kage bunshin is forbidden is because it makes you run out of chakra quickly not completely sure if this is how it works but i think you split your chakra into equal part in every bunshin so when he does more and they are defeated more chakra is lost to the point he could end near enough cero and make the user faint or dye

Hmm... This is only a mistake in the translation

Well, until this time it is translated FORBIDDEN Jutsu which is 'wrong',

The correct translation should be = FOR BEAT THEM Jutsu (read it fast)

So, starting now we should understand that the word "Forbidden Jutsu" must be converted into "For Beat Them Jutsu". For it proper meaning.

Kinjutsu kicks ass but they are forbidden because they have adverse effects on the user or effectively shortens your life span
