Like think back to all the big fights and long decades of training and struggle they’ve been put through. Would you call them that in terms of battle at this point?

Compared to people like Hit, Buu, the GoD and so on they're babies but they still can fight and defeat those guys so yeah, they're battle vets

Pretty much this. They're among the most experienced mortals. But there are immortals with more battle experience like Beerus and Whis. Both of whom have made Goku and Vegeta look like talented amateurs in terms of battle knowledge. Plus even Roshi had something to teach Goku in the manga.

Goku and Vegeta have had more real battles than those guys though. For example Buu. He is old but never faced any challenge in his life before the Buu saga.

Thing is, Goku and Vegeta have been going through worse things Hit was in his life and has had a lot of teachers (Goku).

I'd say they are more veteran than Hit and Buu who rely in being born with inmense powers without training.

Hit is trained though isn’t he? If I remember Goku is the first guy to have forced him to evolve on the fly but I don’t believe he was born that strong.

That would only make them around 60 or so. That's very old for a human to be a top martial artists. But as saiyans they still have about another 30-40 years in their prime. I'm not sure how long Goku has been in the time chamber compared to how long he's been dead... I think Vegeta is quite a bit older than Goku but he hasn't shown signs of aging since the Saiyan Saga either.
Buu definitely seems like a less experienced fighter. I'm not sure he has the attention span or memory to remember all his fights and learn the mentality of a warrior from them, and he was strong enough to steamroll. But Hit gained power through steady evolution against strong opponents for a thousand years. He should definitely be considered a veteran assassin who has been through tough fights.

What I like is that Vegeta and Goku are veterans compared to the rookie U6 Saiyans. Even when they had more raw power, the exhausted Goku outmanuevered Kale and Caulifla very well until they fused. Vegeta is proudly acting as a mentor for Cabba. Its good that Goku and Vegeta still have room to learn from the gods. But I also really enjoy that they can school the kids on Super Saiyan and tactics.

He could've trained. But I always saw Hit as someone who was born strong and didn't need to train much or look aside his own strengths. Not everybody can counter time skip and likely many battles weren't hard to him in order to learn that much.

He was also an assassin, so I don't think he'd be into wars. Just time stop - bypass guards and kill target.
But if I am taking Goku being he first one to force him to evolve beyond what it meant, then I think he can be excluded from this.

That said, Hit and Buu can come on top because these guys are extremely smart. Buu was learning fast, for example. But I don't think Hit and Buu experienced battles as harsh as Vegeta and Goku.

Hit straight up states he never even contemplated improvement over his base power or ability until he met Goku.

Him naturally being at that level is implied.

Well for those with the sort of “duh of course they are” the reason I made it is sort of like...

I kinda associate Goku and Vegeta in a sort of class of their own, they still have quite a long ways to go from reaching the top and plenty of godly powers like UI waiting ahead with Gods and Angels that may or may not have seen combat far more intense/brutal/frequent. But... with their raw combat experience in terms of their given lifespan I would call them veterans easily. Just needed test out that label.

Was it what it was said? I only vaguely remember him saying Goku is the only person who forced him to improve in combat or something like that. I haven't see that episode in like 2 years though.

    Same

To be fair I could be misremembering but im like 90% sure Hit says that prior to fighting Goku he never bothered with improvement of any kind at all.

Hit also challenges all of his targets directly and honourably. Most of his targets might have been pushovers, but there were probably quite a number of tyrants and warriors on the list too. He's strong because he spent a thousand years getting into fair fights.
