....Hidan has to mutilate himself to inflict pain om the enemy. I mean he's immortal so why not just kill the opponent with some kind of jutsu and just get it over with. Why does he need the scythe for long range combat..why does he even need that circle. Theremust be some trick on why he wouldn't do close combat.

And did you notice the panels with the blood drops. Why use three panels. Maybe if Asuma licked Hidan's blood the curse would be undone? Or grant Asuma immortality (sorry, that was just stupid)I'm thinking that Hidan's droplets of blood will play an important role inthe next chapter... maybe the weakness lies...in his blood

After seeing your name. I just noticed that Sakon and Ukon could own Hidan.

He's religious. He does it to please his god. It's impractical, as Kakuzu keeps saying, but worship doesn't need to be efficient.

Now, it could be he has to continually "sacrifice" people to retain his invulnerable status, for example; but, regardless, his awkward fighting style is due to the religious origins.

Pain and suffering are Hidan's religion, so everything he does is basically a form of worship. As for the self mutilation, he seesm to be a masochist and highly enjoy it. I don't think he's actualy complained about any self inflicted injuries so far - as long as the enemy felt it too, he's having a good time.

As for the scyth, Shikamaru guessed it's purpose already. The three large blades are there to increase the chance of Hidan drawing the enemy's blood. Then he can reel the scyth back in, lick the blood, and activate his voodoo ability.

Hidan told us already - his skills just aren't that good. His only weapons are his immortality and his curse, and beyond that he's weaker and slower than every other Akatsuki member. However, much like Itachi's Mangekyou, he doesn't need to be as powerful in absolute terms as his opponents because all he has to do is cut them once and they're through.

Hidan hasn't shown us a single jutsu yet, and it's entirely possible that this is all he knows. Perhaps the use of other jutsus is forbidden to followers of Jashin, or perhaps his immortality uses too much chakra for him to waste any on other things, or perhaps he just simply sucks at everything else.

Um,no, actually, Hidan is kind of Sakon?s natural enemy. Hidan could stab himself, while it would kill Sakon. Something, Kiba had to take an enormous risk.

It's because he's a themed character. Why does batman style all his weapons like bats? Why does Oro only use snake attacks? Why did Sai use an Ink Bunshin instead of a normal kawarimi? Same thing.

Yes I've wondered this same thing since the last chapter.

I mean why hop back in the circle when Asuma was on the ground decripit.

Slice him in half, toss some shurikens at him, something.

Dont go back and stand in the dam circle that they pwned you in.

They are sacrifices for his god.
And he has the slowest attack speed in Akatsuki is what he said, so that answers your question.

Because it's good to have distinct variety in a story that has a shitload on ninjas displaying unique skills.

Doesn't he also get pleasure from his victim's agony?

As for the blood, it could have some super special importance or they simply focused on it for the added dramatic effect. Like --> "OMG!! There's blood... that must mean that..." DUN DUN DUN!

Ok you have the option to chase your opponent around who will be trying to dodge your attacks (how annoying and impertinent of them), OR you can do what your religion allows and mutilate yourself and let the damage and pain transfer over to them without having to go to the trouble of chasing them around.

    (yawn) >stab self< (opponent screams) >laugh, scratch nuts, continue<
