    Well okay

1.first you make a oval then a cross in the oval. Now the horizontal line on the cross can be were the eyes or where the eyebrows can be, most people do it like that, or they set the horizontel line to mark the pupils on the characters face. And then there is the three line one, where you just add three lines under the horizontel line on the cross. You'll understand soon enough.

    2. Shading well....thats a hard one to talk about. It really depends on where you want the light source to be. Thats all I can really tell you about shading. You can also look at my DA Alot of my sketches and drawings have pretty good shading that could give you idea's.

really only tip is practice, advice can only get you so far, just look at pictures, study them, and try to draw it.

No....I wouldn't say that. You can be a good artist by just studying pictures, but you really should know the basics before your really serious to become a good artist. But practice is the best training for being a artist.

what i did to get better was to look at things and draw them before you start to draw from your head....it might take a while but its best to just do it.
