I have sort of been disappointed with this arc

But the Rival characters are importnat too :(

    >Ochaco as a rival

Lel. Her best adversary is Horikoshi's lack of interest in her character.

Side characters that will likely be forgotten after this arc :blobsad

    Rivalry is highly overrated.

We'll see where Hori goes with Ochako. She's certainly stepped into the spotlight these last two chapters. As for the others, I expect them to remain secondary. Doesn't mean that they won't appear here and there throughout the series, so their abilities and just how significant they are still matter. Personally, I've enjoyed learning more about them.

    No.

    Competition is important for growth.

And you can say that, but Ochaco has been useless for 3 years now and Horikoshi said the manga is only gonna be like 30-40 volumes

There can be competition without the old rivalry trope. MHA has plenty of it, in and out of the tournaments and training arcs.

As far as the length of the manga goes, I think it also depends on how popular the series becomes as well as just how much the characters and story take on a life of their own. A manga can snowball far beyond what was initially planned (and from what I've read, this is not unusual). MHA doesn't appear to be anywhere near its end at this point.

By what? Who can cheer for Deku the loudest as he does all of the work and the rest of the crew falls behind even his shadow?

But seriously, it just seems like Deku is really intelligent, but doesn't have common sense, whereas Aster has average intelligence, but a lot of common sense.

Deku is smart and analytical, but the problem is he laser focuses too much and forgets the big picture a lot.

And let me guess.....Asta makes no effort to improve his book smarts. Instead he wings it?

Brah this isn't Katekyo Hitman Reborn where the entire cast gets a power up every arc, growth here is done in a more logical way.

Bakugou doesn't need a power-up to catch up, he's so broken he just wills himself into being stronger whenever he needs. It's his heroism that needs fixing.

As for Todoroki his big growth moment was starting to use fire, which he has been improving at, and the latest arc hinted he has to learn a technique from his father if if wants to go beyond.

Things need to happen at their own pace.

And Ochako is fine, I don't like how she was treated in the Overhaul arc but otherwise she gets plenty of screentime and growth. It's just that this manga has a lot of characters, not all of them can get screentime every arc. Before the current one we had spent a long time without seeing Iida for example, and now suddenly he got a power up.

The hell you mean ? It's been forever since they had a power improvement and they had their chance in an arc like the current one where the whole point is to show it off .

    And they didn't

    Her character is pointless

Arbitrary power improvements suck. I'd rather see slow, natural growth. And they are getting that.

She had a pretty great character development scene in the provisional license arc, and now she just got a flashback and a heroic moment.

Like why does Bakugou even need a power improvement? He just solo'd an entire team. His big moment in this arc was showing off his new teamwork skills.

Ochako is okay as far as female leads go

Katsuki needing more power I guess is because if he and Deku are gonna be in the same league, it only makes sense that they gain new abilities at a similar rate

That's a bit disingenuous. Yuno was in the same situation as Aster, and yet Yuno is smarter.

@Rax, don't waste your time with Dragon D. Luffy. If you start refuting his points he'll cry that you're insulting him and he'll block you. He's already done it to me. :zaru

Of course THAT would be an excuse.....

And of course he is not the smartest....not surprised. Not a surprise why I am not going to get into Black Clover. I just need a break from that type of protagonist....
