Punches the enemy while holding a sword instead
that scene was brilliant.
I love how he just threw the scabbard of a revered blade like candy wrapper
This is the most Luffy-Zoro scene ever.
I thought he cut this dude's sword while he was punching them but upon further inspection it was probably zoro.
That's how Shanks uses his sword
Between that and the "I was lying" coverup
It's actually quite dangerous if you end up in the way of the blade when Luffy throws that punch.
is that nervous fear i smell?
that's how he stopped full powered Akainu's punch. and made him shiver
an let's put a stop to this right here.
Cut that scrubs sword clean without even trying.
That was Zoro.
I find it odd (and slightly funny tbf) that he is just doing his normal moves while holding the sword. This may just be an effect of Luffys increased childishness though.
I like how the dude that got punched looks equally surprised that it was a punch instead of a cut.
It was obvious that he threw a punch and the sword cut another person.
Looking good, Joker
Not it wasn't. Luffy "accidentaly" cut the dude's sword.
then why is zoro halfway through a pirouette in that panel
I actually think that Zoro was handling the dude on the left, he also has a slash on his left side that couldn't have come from Luffy's sword, the directionality is wrong. If Luffy had caused that slash too, then his head would've come off.
I knew Luffy will do something like this, he's too stupid to properly use a sword but iirc he does used it normally back then
it was Zoro who cut the swords.
maybe luffy cut the dude's sword (accidentally) and zoro is taking him out at the same moment
base on Luffy's position he's too far to the other guy.
Come on. Zoro cut the sword and the dude holing it not Luffy.
From what I see Zoro's halfway nothing. He's about to use his sword but Luffy does his wtf move before him, cuting the dude sword accidentally.
There are no slash or anything on Zoro's side. All the panel is centered on Luffy's move. The "smoke effect" (or whatever it is) is made by Luffy's sword-punch
Zoro's left hand and blade are already down, so he's already fired off his attack. The left contrail is the left over from Zoro's slash and doesn't even match the arc of Luffy's straight punch.
Zoro's right hand with the sword is up, just like before using it. Otherwise he would have his sword down (or at least on his left. Since he has it in his right hand, the move should be from the right to the left, not the opposite).
Besides the arc-slash is pretty clearly Luffy's punch. Not Zoro. (Really nothing to discuss here tbh).
But more importantly, this panel is entirely about Luffy misusing (using badly) the sword. Luffy cuting the dude's sword is part of the comic situation, and shows/illustrates how his sword is better than random ones, even used like a noob.
Oda wouldn't waste a panel showing Zoro cuting a fodder blade like this. Just the dude's face shows how surprised/shocked he is so Luffy's move was unexpected.
So for me, this panel is 100% Luffy's comedy theme. Even Zoro's reaction confirms it.
Now you're just being needlessly stubborn.
Check again blind girl. I didn't say right, I said left. He attacked with his left sword.
And as I said, if that cut was from Luffy's sword, the guys head would've come off.
No one's arguing against it being a comedy panel, but that's not part of it.
I read too fast, my bad on this point, and I was arguing on the other panel in which we don't see Zoro's left sword.
So I don't know what to think now...
It could be both actually. (The dude keeping his head is meaningless since this is OP).
Luffy accidentally cuting it would be more funny though.
When people can't read simple manga panels (I'm at fault of this sometimes). But letting your biased opinion + the lack of understanding between Luffy and Zoro's relationship and combine it with reading simple manga panels can form a dangerous weapon.
Zoro fucking cut the sword, it's obvious he was done on that panel. He attacked, cut the sword and the panel showed us the results only and not the action.
"But why didn't oda show us the action of zoro doing it you fucking zoro wanker"
because you would cry for 14 pages on an online forum on how Oda wastes his panels on "meaningless" things.
"ok you convinced me using this point, what the fuck got luffy and zoro's relationship got to do with anything"
because Zoro, franky, robin and to some degree Brook too are the only ones that will go with the flow when it comes to Luffy and will help him do his thing. Luffy wanted to feel like a samurai, zoro cut down anyone getting in the way of luffy doing that (as long as its safe and within the category of "gags")
