A)The Akatsuki is like a terrorist organization.

B)Hidan is a fanatic religious person... in a terrorist organization.

    Hidan sounds like Taliban.

Is Kishi trying to do something here?

Satire? Subtle political commentary? Or just me reading into it too much.

I do not see it, Hidan is always complaining about how hard is his religion is, and the ytimes it takes. Fanatics never complain.

Hidan is the dream of any terrorist. Auto-bombing at will !! Just has to endure some scratches and burns... And not forget, you need someone to rebuilt you everytime...

I think his immortality comes from his faithfulness to his religion. We see he thinks it's an hassle, but if was to stop practising fervently, maybe he'd be denied that immortality. He doesn't do it because he is a good faith believer, just that he has too.

And I had the same thought. He speaks like he was from Al Qaeda or something. But he's cooler than Al Qaeda ! Shaves, and has great hair. And let's not forget the awesome Akatsuki overcoat.

I don't think it's supposed to be a parallel of any sort. Even radical Islamic terrorists see the carnage they cause as a means to an end. Hidan sees carnage as the end itself - his religion is based on killing. Also, his religion seems much more rooted in the occult than any legitimately accepted religion - his use of the word "curse," his elaborate rituals, his prayer beads and other trinkets. If Hidan has any parallel at all, it's Satan worship, but I think Kishimoto just wanted to make a really, really scary dude with a dark priest theme.

Aside from Buddhism, i would suspect that he has combined ideas from Satanic worship and Flaggelantism.

The way he speaks of "Gods judgement" and his disdain for unbelievers seems pretty similar to some sects today.

there's no way he can be compared to radical islam...his religion is more of a cult than a real religion..basically he was put in the story just to have some maniacal priest that kills everyone.

The thing with real religious fanatics is they have an agenda they're pushing. Hidan doesn't care if you believe what he does or not...he just wants an excuse to kill you so he can bust a nut. He himself is religious, but not a fanatic...he's not trying to die for his religion, he's not trying to become a martyr in the name of his beliefs, he's not trying to 'prove' the validity or strength of his beliefs or his god(s). He's religious....and he's a nut, but he's not a religious fanatic as we have in our world.

So there's a difference between a religious nut... and a religious fanatic.

And Hidan is a cult follower, not a follower of a religion.

He's not trying to prove anything... he's just using it as a reason to kill people.

Sorta like Kazuzu uses money as the reason to kill people then?

Then could you say that Hidan is Kishi's way of saying "Don't follow religion this way"

And Kazuzu is Kishi's way of saying "Don't use money as an excuse to kill people."

    ?

You needn't even get into Akatsuki if you're looking into political statements.

I'd like to think it's a satire of religious violence in general, not just Islamic extremists. The fact that Hidan's religion seems to be a perversion of Buddhism only adds to the irony.
