Just scanning through my recollection, every time Sasuke tried to use his sword on someone, they were able to react or they just plain shit on him.

Sasuke didn't seem to be very good with a sword. It seems more like he just happened to prefer using it, but anyone he tried to use it on was able to respond with kunai or even unarmed.

Did he actually do anything impressive or just constantly get his sword slapped out of his hands?

He fights with it, did you want to see him lop off heads?

The sword is one part of his fighting style, and he is an overall successful fighter. I am sure if he felt like he was a shitty swordsman he wouldn't have taken to it in the first place.

I don't think he mains it(its not his pure combat choice). Its more or less a way to create openings, or initiate battle tactics. He definitley more proficient with in Post shippuden.

It's obviously not his preferred way of fighting, and all the people he fought against with it were ninja that were at the top of the shinobi world.

I wouldn't say he was bad with it, he was probably better than most normal ninja. It's more so that he was fighting jinchuriki and kages, whom aren't normal in any sense and have too much power to be killed by such a thing. He DID finish off Danzo with a sword strike, though.

In a weakened state he could defend himself from Acrobat

And in a fatigued state he could defend himself from Mifunes Iaijutsu which merited praise from him

So yeah the dudes got skill

Not to mention the shit he pulled against Kinshiki
