    Jazz lovers, where are you?

guys i havent met anyone who worships jazz in the forum yet, which is wrong TERRIBLY wrong! use this thread to talk about all the greats lousi armstrong, miles davis, trane, mingus, dolphy and dave burbeck, and my personal goddess Norah jones. Tlak about your fav tracks and such. you all now the drill :) .

Personally my fav (and first) jazz track which defines the whole genre for me is dave burbeck's Take ive. that song is such a masterpiece. what do you think?

Does it have to be strictly 100% pure jazz or is it also allowed to post blended streams? Cauz in that case I like to mention the jazzmattaz series of Guru (from Gang Starr) It's jazz blended with hiphop :)

Oh and I almost forgot to mention US3 - Cantaloop. It's still one of the best blended songs out there imo.

Btw besides Norah Jones another female artist mede her debut: Katie Melua (Crawling up a hill). Never heard of her before but what a beautiful voice. Very impressive song. Seems that there are a lot of young artist who are making music with jazz influences.

    "i see trees of green
    red roses too
    i see them bloom
    for me and you
    and i think to myslef
    what a wonderful world"

man you have to hear coldplay cover of it, chris's piano and vocals are to die for in it.

Miles Davis' kind of blue is a classic - I also like Bitches Brew though. And Dave Brubeck is very good as well. Weather Report - "I Sing the Body Electric" (jazz fusion) is GREAT!

Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Jelly Roll Morton Charlie Mingus and Thelonius Monk....! I could go on. It's not my favorite genre, but the tops of the genre are quite entertaining and inspirational.

Ah! Jazz, I have listened to jazz since I was 5, my dad turned on the
radio station to 95.5 Smooth Jazz so I could listen, or he buys cds
of the most famous jazz singers.

Now, my favorite is soul jazz, a development of hard bop and blues.
Developed in the late 1950s and most popular during the early 1970s,
I listened to soul jazz more than any other. I love to listen to Ramsey
Lewis's The In Crowd, perhaps the best known soul jazz, sung back in
1965. I used to listen to the Ramsey Lewis Trio, with Eldee Young and
Isaac Holt, but once they were replaced, bahh, their music wasn't as
    good anymore.

Soul Jazz organists I listen to incude Bill Doggett, Richard Holmes, and
Jimmy Smith. Soul Jazz saxophonists I listen to include Gene Ammons,
Houston Person, Eddie Harris, Eddie Davis, Lou Donaldson, and Stanley
Turrentine. I also listen to whoever they perform with.

Yeah, I listen to Norah Jones once in a while, when my dad listens to
her. I like First Sessions, Come Away With Me, and Feels Like Home.
Miles Davis III pretty much rules. I have listened to the albums Birth
of the Cool, Miles Ahead, Milestones, and especially Kind of Blue.
Satchmo was great. My dad has many of his hit records, Stardust,
Hello Dolly (It actually knocked the Beatles out of the #1 spot in the
top tracks for a while, that is what my dad told me), What a
Wonderful World, you name it. Dave Brubeck is ok, me and my dad
don't like him too much. In Your Own Sweet Way and The Duke are
my favorites. Pick Up Sticks, Unsqaure Dance, and Blue Rondo A La
    Turk are ok.

How do I know these names? Well, my father taught me all about them,
and he could write a 5 page essay on every one of them. Yes, my
father's favorite music is soul jazz as well. For other jazz artists, he
knows stuff a lot of fans don't know, and he doesn't tell me. Yikes,
that's 48 years of jazz information in my dads head. :)

I've never actually bought a Jazz record though, mostly because never could decide what to buy, since I really don't know the genre that well...

Jazz is cool, But you gotta get the oldschool stuff. Jazz is something I appreciate more than any other music, as most of it is a huge solo.
