Yeah, this is the project I've been hinting at for a while now.

Remember the UZUMAKI artbook? Remember the big pages of text in the back everyone ignored? Yeah, it's a super-long interview with Kishimoto.

    So, for your pleasure:

(If there's typos and such, please tell me, I didn't read back over it too carefully.)

Great work. Agrees with some things I've been saying like Goku/Naruto and other things... and that modern technology > ninjas *stares at Akatsuki vs. Al Queda thread... Thanks for taking the time to translate it....

I see you fixed some typos. great, i was going to say you typed rules as "rles", but you fixed it. And aeroplanes are the british way of saying airplanes. :)

first paragraph should be "added" and you have "aded"

    - Did you use any real person as a basis for Naruto?

K: There wasn't any real-life model like that. At any rate, I modelled him in the image of children.
    "modeled"

Therefore, when I was creating the enemy characters too, I wasn't really tinking about fighting.
    "thinking"

K: When I was in junior high school, my PE teacher was very passionate... He was a fervous teacher like Gai, and really interesting. I really liked that teacher.
    fervors or fervours

    - What kind of time period did you set it in? If it was in the distant past,
then covenience stores wouldn't be there...
    convenience

that's all i found, that's really good for 10 pages!
THANKS A BUNCH for this it's great!.

K: That'd have to be his simple, clear thought processes. Also, his
    mischievousness.

I think? Maybe I'm just misreading.

Edit: Oh, also. You can put the comma in the quotes or at least that's how it's been done for me for my past however many english courses. For example:

"K: Maybe. I didn't really make Sakura out to be a "heroine," my point of view..."

Nothing uh.. big. Guess I picked it out after being told about it so much in my courses. Don't mean to sound picky or anything. :redface

i cant believe people are actually here pointing out typos =/

Is it just me or does kishimoto always come across as kinda boring in his interviews?

Right, plus I've been taking english at my university for so long. It's kind of second-nature to read something and say, "Eh, shouldn't that period be over here..." since it was worth a grade and I was paying for it.

I appreciate the translation though if that's what you're getting at.

    All fixed.

"modelled" is British spelling, just like "aeroplane". I'm Irish, so it's how I've been taught, though exposure to the Internet's made me change a lot of my spellings. XD

And the comma in the quotes thing always looked odd to me, I know it's more grammatically correct, but to me it just seems to trap the comma in the quotes and separate it from the sentence. Yes, I'm a strange person.

K: Gunpowder is used in the anime,
though I don't think it should be there.

Hmmm...proof that Kishi doesn't have much to do with the anime?? :amuse

Probably, which would be SO disappointing. I don't see why they can't ask him to drop by the studio sometime to check things out or at least send him a monthly memo.

Especially since he's disappointed by it, y'know?

lot of similarities between DZ and naruto: main characters also sasuke and vegita are kind of similar and their relationship is also present to a certain degree between naruto and sasuke. Also naruto's teacher, jirira is like the peverted old man w/ the cain and turtel in DZ. pattern of villians are somewhat similar too... way too powerful but they wind up getting their buts kicked... eventually... yeah some interesting connections...

    THANKS!!! :thumbs

A question about a part though:

This sentence isn't completely clear... In the third sentence, is he talking about Shikamaru while comparing him to Sasuke, or talking about Sasuke? To whom the second "he" and the following sentence relate to? Thanks!

    :oh ^____^

Kishimoto wants to work on the regulation of data connections? (whatever That is) :oh

Big thanks for the translations! Great work! :thumbs

I think Sasuke. He didn't exactly make it crystal clear, but that's the impression I got, given that later he said he sees natural rivals as genius-types.

I wish I knew what that meant. That's it literally, データ関係を整理したり de-ta kankei wo seiri shitari. "regulate/sort data connections/relationships". It could be information gathering/sorting, possibly, but I don't know for sure, so I didn't put that in. Make sense to anyone?

something that many people wonder about.

This implies that Kishimoto really doesn't have as much of a say on anime as previously believed.

    But contrary to that,

    Spoiler: NAruto Movie

That Kunai MAchine Gun and Chakra ARmour somewhat contradicts it. I mean ninja battlesuits?

His love of samurai and ninja films was obvious, but now that you've translated this interview my kabuki theory has been proven, thanks Pazuzu! Thank you very much. If you find anymore of these anywhere, PLEASE TRANSLATE THEM! I've been studying cultural sampling for a while now and this interview alone is enough to legitmately include "Naruto" in my explorations. Any others like this one would be very helpful in researching Kishimoto-sama's sources and influences.

Lol didnt some people here say that Kishimoto's favorite character is Sasuke? In this interview he clearly admits that he doesnt like Sasuke much.

^ *laughs* I was waiting for someone to point that out! :amuse

Though he said that he can't relate to people like Sasuke. He doesn't necessarily hate him.
