I'm sorry, but I just had to bring this up. It just seems lately the episode titles they've be comming up with have been becoming lamer and lamer. I know it's probably viz's attempt to think up "clever" titles to try and get the kiddies to go "that sounds cool lets watch that!" but come on:
Episode 14: The Number One Hyperactive, Knucklehead Ninja Joins the Fight!
Episode 42: The Ultimate Battle: Cha!
Episode 57: He Flies! He Jumps! He Lurks! Chief Toad Appears!
those are just a few and I only included episode 42 because that "cha" tacked on to the end makes it that much lamer. I know that a lot of the titles are alright and pretty faithful to the original, but sometimes they come up with titles that have that "groan factor." You know kind of like when someone makes a really lame joke and everyone groans because it's that lame. Anyway what do you guys think?

Those you mentioned are pretty similar to their Japanese titles.

Honestly I prefer these titles over what's been translated by the subs. "The Best Battle Is Alright Damnit!"......come on, that is beyond lame.

    Not a title, but...

"Good, Naruto! You look kind of cool!"

    "laugh

Although it's a cliche to bring this up at this point, I am very much annoyed that you call VIZ's titles lame when 4Kids exists.

Actually it is. It's what episode 42 has been translated too on many sites.

...That's a direct translation of the Japanese title. If you want to take it up with someone, take it up with Studio Pierrot, not the subbers.

The original title meaning, gets semi-lost in translation. Just because it sounds funny when translated to English, does not mean it is a bad title in Japanese. :oh

these titles are exactly the ones the japanese titles were like.

the number, one hyperactive ninja was the same.
the ultimate battle: cha was called the ultimate battle: shanarro (cha)
and etc, they're still the same.

blame the japanese version if u think its lamer titles

I was talking about the line I posted, not the title you did. I know that was a title.

Still, "Besuto Batoru wa SHANNAROO!" can be translated into a lot of things less stupid than "The Best Battle is Alright Dammit!".

As Geg stated, you can't really complain much, as the titles are deprived from their Japanese counterparts very similarly. I prefer them, as some of the Japanese titles in my opinion would sound quite strange if used in the dub.

I'm not calling viz lame just some of the titles they've chosen. In comparison to 4kids anything can seem really awesome in comparison. And like I said I know that a lot of them are pretty similar to the translations, though episode 57 was embelished in my opinion, and for 14 I've always prefered it being #1 at surprising people rather than "knuclehead" that just sounds lame.

Meh, a lot of the recent fillers are guilty of a lot more than that.

    Don't even get me started.

    - Good Pirates vs Bad Pirates
    - The Crack of Don
    - Here We Go A Ghin.
    - Ground Zero
    - The Sweat Threat (For those of you who don't know, yes this does refer to Luffy vs Crocodile 3. Don't think about it too hard)
    - The Thief with the Heart of Gold
    - Bell of the Brawl

And that's just working off of memory.

lol, 4kids does a lot of those stupid pun titles a lot with Pokemon, or at least they did while they still had the rights to it, but now it seems Pokemon USA is following suit.

It should be noted that they are very similar to the Japanese titles...Which means:

"AMG THEY'RE PERFECT THEN! THE JAPANESE CAN DO NO WRONG! CLOSE THIS THREAD!!!"

    Anyway, both versions titles suck.

What's wrong with it? It's just referring to Ebisu's meeting with Jiraiya.

That what happens when they try to translate a title right from the Japanese episode instead of making a more West-pleasing title of their own. This is one of the few anime where they leave everything as it is and just make the words understandible (besides the excessive profanities). Don't know whether this is respect or... They just rushed the series out of Japan.

Ehh, they're mostly... mostly translations of the Japanese titles. A lot of Japanese anime titles tend to be long and sounds really akward in English.

Some of them were translated differently, or were given a similar yet different meaning. Compare English "The Fifth Gate: A Splendid Ninja is Born!!" and "Ah Rock Lee! This is the way a man should be!" :oh

I'm not sure what the Japanese opinion of the title is though.

"Aliens attack! Kabuto falls! Goku saves everyone!" :yell

You know I personally dont think the dubbed titles are THAT bad. i think a lot of the time what happens when dubbing is that english dubs try to polish the titles/ v/a, all that.
Kind of like the difference between
    cool....and
    COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ^that's a good analogy I think ^_^
chill out man O_o I never said that I thought the japanese could do no wrong. As mentioned there are also some japnese titles that are kind of on the lame side as weel. That aside this my opinion only I'm not trying to force it on anyone, and I just wana know what other people think.

The names are actually similar to the japanese title's... which are, themselves, stupid and the source of much humor. If there is one thing I dislike about most anime, it's the overuse of title elements which make them all sound retarded. Translating them into english doesn't make it much better. Whatever, at least it's still a good dub for the most part.
