    Let's GO!!!!

Spoiler: Loved how the opening's art was sorta reminiscent of Terada's lined shading

I know it's dumb to criticize a 25-y/o commercial, but they missed a golden opportunity to use the Giligan's Island theme song!

What does everyone think of the art style?

I feel like it's going to grow on me, kinda like WW's did.

I liked the reanimated opening scene, but the game's art style isn't exactly wowing me. It's like a cleaner HD 2D 3DS Zelda, but with bobblehead art.

I'm a bit disappointed it isn't a new game as well. Not that I'm opposed to LA getting remade.

I am in with the art choice. Grabs the magic of the Gameboy sprite. Not everything has to be super detailed. If it works with the game's approach it doesn't matter. Topdown Zelda is best Zelda for me, and I think the cutesy less detailed artstyle works better for it.

I don't want it super detailed. I wanted something like Four Sword Adventures in HD except with non-WW style designs and cleaned up somewhat, kind of like how the world around Link in this remake looks.

LA was more in line with aLttP in looks to begin with.

On second look now that I'm not viewing the direct from a phone screen it really is just the human models that bother me. The background and enemies look quite good.

HD sprites would be fucking awesome. But Link looks just as alive and animated as any sprite-based Zelda. I think the eyes do make it seem less so tho. Especially if viewed from very short snippets.

I think the biggest let down is the stillness of the vegetation after playing BotW. It's not a huge complaint, and it's obviously gameboy sprite inspired, but it would ease up a lot of complaints I feel.

I just hope it's at 40 dollars to calm some heads.

It's okay to disagree on this.

I like the new look, and I don't think it's a stretch to say that it looks like the Gameboy iteration. The beauty of minimalist 8-bit graphics is that your mind fills in the blanks, so we see what we want to see. I didn't imagine this when I played it back on my Gameboy color, but I am not displeased with the obvious similarities turned into literal interpretations of style (the eyes).

On the whole it looks much like the 3DS games but with a sillier looking Link.

IMO a funny nod to simplistic visuals of yore.

I'd say it's more clay-like with humans looking like bobbleheads compared to the 3DS ones. aLBW had some things going for it visuals, but it could be kind of ugly sometimes with its saturation. I loved that game, though, hopefully this game will be 60FPS like that one was.

I gotta say it. It doesn't look good. Like Link Between Worlds but...worse.

Why do they start with a kick ass animated intro with the original artstyle and then show megablock 3D graphics is beyond me. Don't bait and switch us like that. This is a Switch game, not a fucking DS.

But then again I'm biased against Nintendo remakes, they always do the shit I don't like about remakes cause they always don't put any effort to it. This shit to me is Pokemon Go tier.

The art style looks nice with that lighting and shading in my opinion, although the blur around the edge of the screen is a bit weird to me.

Been a while since I've played a Zelda game, I'll have to pick this one up.

Why they did the switch - it was probably mostly to mirror how the original opened, with a detailed animated sequence (for the Gameboy anyways) in the storm that then segued into the game's actual style.

I can kinda undersand the disconnect, but it ticked all the right nostalgia boxes for me and I appreciate how much they're staying faithful to how the original felt.

Ah, here's a neat comparison vid:

Like I said, I think it's fair to call this low effort even if it's still considered a design choice. Looks are subjective anyway, and with this kind of polarizing style, it's take or leave kind of deal. I personally think the Gameboy charm works. I just wish they'd animate the vegetation a bit. Like Link's hair at least.

But this is in no way comparable with Pokemon Let's Go. That game stripped and dumbed down features from the original Red/Blue from an engine and assets they're already made 2-3 games with. It's easy to distinguish which one is the real crime honestly.
