I'll recommend you something I just finished - Deadman Wonderland

It's not recent, the manga finished in 2013 but I picked it up a few days ago. It's about a school kid who gets framed for killing the rest of his friends/ class mates, gets falsely imprisoned and is forced to fight other prison inmates with supernatural abilities depicted as a cruel game while at the same time he plans to clear his name, escape the prison and find the culprit who was responsible for killing all his friends. It's all set in this prison called Deadman Wonderland.

I really liked it. It's an emotional rollercoaster from the beginning right until the end.

Only 58 chapters too. Give it a shot.

Tough to say. I don't know what genre, themes, tone or structure you're after. Or whether or not you're an idiot. So I don't know what will appeal to you.

I really wished they animated the entire series, there are a lot of fights I wanted animated. Any chance they'll bring it back you think?

Yeah I'd like to see Senji vs Toto fight animated, that was the best one in the manga. I watched the anime straight after completing the series and I prefer the manga tbh, I didn't find the anime crisp enough and the emotion isn't the same but I don't see it coming back. The anime didn't do well in Japan but it did well in America, which isn't enough to pull in a second season - it has to do well in Japan.

At this point I think the anime only watchers have read the manga (only 58 chapters, quick as shit to finish) because there's a difference in reviews from the same reviewers between the anime and the manga. Negative for the anime and positive for the manga.

ya, i started with the anime and then read the manga from the beginning. Manga was much better and the anime excluded some parts and characters.
