I'm sure some people have already heard of this by now since it's pretty epic...
I'm just ashamed that LJ caved to such a pathetic group. Freedom of Speech really isn't what it used to be...

Oh, won't somebody think of the children! :arg

In many cases aren't these extreme reactions more harmful to children that what they're try to protect the children from? Anyways, I hope this eats into their profits.

By the way, since when is talking about illegal activities illegal by itself?

I heard about it already. They did get rid of some communities that were questionable...which the article did not remark upon of coarse. But I do think they jumped the gun a bit on some journals/communities.

What can you do? Every LJ community and journal agreed to the TOS. Livejournal staff can do what ever the hell they want. :[

Ever since people agreed that no one will ever write a novel again. Too risky, for some reason.

I once wrote a short-story for school years ago from the perspective of a psycho killer and I posted that crappy little piece on an LJ community for some lols. I was lucky I wasn't deleted for that.

But wait - that's right - they only care about the sex-related stuff. Violence is totally ok! Whoever heard of children being affected by violence anyway? Clearly sex is far more harmful to them should they ever come across it on LJ and learn about it.

If it only was limited to novels... I've just found my sister's junior high biology textbook, located the chapter concerning human anatomy, and what did I come upon? Pictures of naked men. Plenty of 'em. Need I say more?

I think I'm going to scan a few pages, and mail them to the Warriors for Innocence, so they can properly investigate the matter.

A point I was going to make as well. Seriously, what kind of society says that showing violent television is a-ok, but when it comes to sex, nothing before 10:00 can even make mention of it. Exactly what are we protecting our children from when they are exposed to sexual conversations?

Probably not. It's been discussed with lawyers already and LJ hasn't done anything illegal as they reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. It's just that they had no legal obligation to delete all those communities and journals in first place, but they did it anyway without warning and they didn't even release a statement about what was happening. They still haven't. The only comment they've made on the situation is to reporters, and they've simply been ignoring all their bewildered paying customers.

So while they haven't done anything illegal, it's still censorship and a badly handled case of it too. It's unethical more than anything. The only technicality you could bring them up on is that they broke their own ToS. They promised users 'as much freedom of speech as possible' and clearly they've gone back on this since censoring any kind of discussion of paedophilia, i*c*st, or rape (including support groups set up for victims) is not giving 'as much freedom of speech as possible'.

Yeah, I've been following this all day after it got brought up on one of the underage Naruto pairings comms. While I honestly don't think LJ will do anything right now, they will perhaps when the fan wank reaches epic win proportions, and it's getting there quickly thanks also to additional controversies to fanfic writers like what's going on with Fanlib, a good idea with exploitative backers, being mass-shunned by their supposed content providers, the writers.

Hell, I don't even like harry potter porn (they too out pornish_pixes, an hp adult fanfiction com of 4,000 users), but I'll defend any fandom's right to produce smut, even bad smut! ::shakes fist:: This means war!

    Sere

PS. There's already indications with what WFI has responded with, and with LJ only talking to the press, that they're getting more than they bargined for from the people that pay for their LJ's. Anyone wanna bet by tomorrow we'll have rapid back-pedalling by this time tomorrow?

It is only about one thing and that is Parents and responcibility. Partents don't want to take the time to go and make sure their kids are doing the right thing, and try to make every one else do the work for them. It is just another example of people taking the easy way out.

Do you know what I like? I like how majority of american parents bitch about everything except the most important things.

The animosity towards sex in the western part of the world is baffling.I mean wtf?

Wow, yet another thing that makes me believe society is going down the drain. Seriously, I hate these groups out there that think just because they don't like something, no one should be allowed to have / see it. Freedom of speech is freedom to speak what you want, not freedom to speak what you want as long as I say its ok. Personally, I think kids SHOULD be exposed to sex, violence and swears, but in a good way. If you teach them stuff young, they learn what is bad and what is good. Anyway, back on topic.. Why is LJ caving to a pathetic group of whining babies? People like that need to get a life, instead of trying to force their little idiotic opinions on the rest of us. I don't give a damn if a little kid happens to see a story about sex, hell I bet any kid that doesn't know about sex already isn't even able to read and comprehend that. Seriously, they fail at life. :nod

Oh, this just gets better. Did some random surfing on LJ on the topic and this turned:

Apparently, Six Apart caved not just to any group of whiny non-fandom brats with a mission, but to far right wing, dominionistic, Neo-Confederates that pretty much bend every tenant of Christianity and make Focus on the Family look tame in comparision.

I think I'm gonna go retch now, and hope this passes over soon.

Oh, and beware anyone that trys the WFI website. It seems to stain all with spyware.

Give it a few weeks, this whole nonsense with the Warriors of Innocence and their warped agenda will die out. You can't censor the internet, nor can you attempt to police it.

Thank god they didn't delete the America's Next Top Model journals yet. LOL Wow, "protecting children" that's pretty pointless, since children nowadays know what sex is. Removing HP fanfics?? I don't see any harm in a Harry Potter fanfic. -_-

Lol Livejournal Being Assulted by Warriors of Innocence

    here is the groups website

here (note its under quite heavy traffic and has tendency to fuck up browsers)

lol I wonder who picked the giant Oxymoron for the group name...also quite humorous watching all these people defend they're naughty fanfics, so much humor.

EDIT: well don't I feel stupid right now, someone close / destroy this please.

Ouch, I knew when I visited their site that there was something awfully wiffy about it. The cheesy, overly dramatic and self-righteous taglines ("we're the only thing standing between children and pure evil" :sclap ) and guides of how to recognise how those ebil paedophiles work (which seem more like how-to guides for actual paedophiles to pick kids up) kinda sent the crazy religiuous fundie who doth protest too much alarm bells ringing. Ala, Ted Haggard.

It's truly frightening that LJ caved to them. I just hope that LJ didn't know how fucking crazy they were...

(Yeah, and I just wiped a load of spyware off my computer that miraculously appeared since my morning scan. The only new site I've visited is the WIF site, so they are most likely the culprits. :notrust )
