Massive Attack

Discussion in 'Music Department' started by Deleted member 84471, Jun 8, 2007.

  1. Anyone else heard of these guys? If you're into down-tempo music, you'll definitely like them. They're basically the definitive trip-hop group in my opinion, their music is a mix of down-tempo electronic with reggae & hip-hop influences.
If you're into good music they're a must-hear. Check out Mezzanine, Protection & Blue Lines for their best stuff.

I wonder how many topics about Massive Attack is ther in Music Dept. why don't you use search function

search function is quite dead. lol:(
and I don't expect you to browse through all those pages of music dept.

I didn't listen to MA for some time now. Heck, I haven't heard this Danny The Dog OST they made

is they any info about new album or sth like that?

  3. Actually I used the search function, and searched with 'massive' and 'attack' and neither showed any results.

Their latest album was supposed to drop in February but hasn't come out yet. I don't have any new info about it, & I was hoping someone here might know about it.. :)

They did the music for Unleashed right? I haven't heard their other stuff, but I loved the movie music.

  5. Yeah, they did the Unleashed soundtrack, and I reckon their best stuff was years before then, but they've been pretty consistently great. Their track's used for the House theme, which was also used in Prison Break and some of their music's been in Sleeper Cell.

It's all very cool and industrial sounding and the like, I find it appropriate for gritty urban movies and it just gives such a cool mood. Kind of like that stuff that was used in Fight Club the movie.

  7. You know what.. bumping cause there has to be more Massive Attack heads.

And you've gotta love the videos. Sly. :del

I like Massive Attack, although I am certainly not what you would call a Massive Attack "head", considering all that I own is their greatest hits. But they have been pimped before, I cant remember if it was Voynich or Bubbles( I know it was a girl)

Mezzanine is one of the best albums that I've ever heard, and the rest of their work is pretty nice, too.

Hardcore massive attack fans rank very high on the "list of fandoms I hate" and band itself is overrated, but apart from those points, their music is certainly not bad. Not for my liking, tho.

  14. I'm not even what you would call a proper trip-hop fan [and so I've never encountered 'fandom' of bands in that genre]in that I've only listened to a few bands, but Protection was the first CD ever I remember buying and their music still sounds fresh to me.. genuine pioneers, which certainly counts for something. 'Overrated' is mainly just a word people use to say 'I don't like it' in a covert way. ;)

If you think another trip-hop or similar band is a lot better, pass the knowledge on.

As a personal taste thing, I think Alpha shits on both Portishead and Massive Attack.

I had heard that they were kinda like "orchestrated version" of trip hop, so I didn't bother trying. Are they really good?

patience, young jedi. next myd =3

  21. Haven't heard Portishead comprehensively but I felt what I heard.. I think it was a couple tracks off Dummy, but one of the members used to be with Massive Attack and he was on Blue Lines I think as well. Never heard of Alpha until now.. beat is kinda nice but if all their tracks are like that the sound's a bit too down-tempo for my taste. Plus the wailing kinda put me off.
