I think screwing up Hidan's ritual is going to come back to haunt Shikamaru. The reason I beleive this is what we've seen of Hidan and how he regards his faith and his ritual.

Hidan himself stated that he his deeply religious. We've also seen he is very defensive of both his faith and ritual. Look at how he reacted when Kakuzu suggested that he cut some parts of it out. He got pissed off and claimed that would be blasphemy. He confirmed these thoughts even more when Zetzu showed up.

Even the recent chapters have shown this. He absolutly refuses to even let Kakuzu do anything since he considers them part of his ritual. Twice he's told him to back off.

I beleive in the next chapter Shikamaru will succeed in freeing Asuma from Hidan's jutsu but that by doing so he's going to set Hidan off big time. If you've ever watched the news you've no doubt seen what happens when you do something considered blasphmous to a religion.

Hmm interesting. But im sure Konoha isn't afraid of 25 murderous Ninja protesting outside the front gates.

Well, I don't think Shikamaru is really concerned with hurting Hidan's feelings about messing up his ritual. =/ He's trying to stop his team from getting killed, and the first order of business would be to protect their captain from certain death.

Doing whatever they plan against Hidan may backfire on them, but disrupting his ritual (in whatever way they can) is basically the only valid option they have. It may do something, it may do nothing at all; hell, it may make Hidan even stronger. However, it doesn't matter since that's their only option if they don't want to get killed (since Kakuzu wouldn't let them retreat anyways). And that's irregardless of whether Hidan goes apeshit on them because they messed up his ritual, since they would have died anyway if they didn't do anything.

Hidan may go especially monkey-poo over his precious ritual being interrupted, but Shikamaru has to save not just his team but the sensei that is his friend and mentor - so in that respect , it's a tie. Hidan is protecting his ritual, Shikamaru his comrade. Both have something precious on the line so time to see how things turn out, who wants to fight the hardest and who has the ability to back their side up the best.

perhaps Hidan will kill someone on the team. at this moment he'll have to begin his postmortem ritual. This would be a good chance to strike maybe?
