I'd say Mihawk is the better swordsman.

What he lacks in materia he makes up for with his superior swordsman skills and the actual sword.

Well, I suppose it all depends who makes the first hit. It Sephiroth immediately starts things off by using one of his more powerful attacks and it hits, then he would most likely win. However, if Mihawk can start slashing him before he could, then he would win. So, it all depends on who's faster...

Mihawk would be faster even if you used the movie version.

Mihawk can cut an object in two that's nowhere near his sword. He dosen't even need speed. Although, as a One Piece character he would be pretty damn fast.

Sephiroth has other abilities as well as his sword.

He can't cast Cure3 if he's slashed in 50 pieces.

Cloud is the ultimate swordsman in FF7. He omnislashed the hell out of him in the end.

Anyway I give it to Mihawk, because even though Sephiroth was a cool badguy, he was also slightly a mamas boy (nothing wrong with being a mamas boy :amuse) and he was too easy of a boss. The guy couldn't even kill you with his ultimate summon. It did gravity damage :sad. He has never once killed my party due to him always cating moves that wouldn't outright kill me or just do gravity damage. And like I said before, Cloud outclassed him at the end of the game. Well I guess he was easy to me since I spend too much time playing rpg's :sad.

He's "Sitting down while waiting for the bullet to get close then drawing his sword and directing it away from him with ease" level of skill.

Can he make up for his lack of BAHAMUT with his superior swordsman skills?

(I'm voting for mihawk, but that had to be said)

Sephiroth didn't have bahamut. The party did :amuse.
Sephiroth had a summon that couldn't even kill you since it was gravity based. Now KH sephiroth was much cooler and tougher. We should consider him instead of FF7 version.

While meteo materia is really devestating, you have to remember that this isn't FF4 or 6 where meteo could just be cast like a regular spell. In his case, meteo had to be cast in a place where a lot of mako energy was gathered. He doesn't have the ability to just cast meteo in any place at any time, plus if he did cast it, he'd get caught in the destruction. Now if you said Ultima, then that'd be a different story :amuse.

But then again, he did fight a bunch of dangerous monsters and killed them with one hit.
