    -=Narutoforums Reputation FAQ=-

    Q. What is reputation?
    A. A system designed to rate the posts and actions of other members.

    Q. What does reputation do?
Besides identifying someone as a good member or a bad member, not much.

    Q. What are the requirements to give someone reputation?
    Both of the following:

    1. A minimum post count of 50.
    2. A minimum reputation of +10 points.

    Q. Can I be banned/penalized for having a bad reputation?
No, having a negative reputation or recieving many negative reputation comments is not, by itself, grounds for a ban. However, it is difficult to
get more negative rep then positive, and the same poor behavior that leads to poor reputation can lead to a ban.

    Q. What are the requirements to receive reputation?
There are none. Anyone can recieve reputation.

    Q. How much rep does one start with?
    10 points upon registration.

    Q. How do I give someone reputation?
On every post, there is a scale icon beneath the user's avatar and personal information. This is the reputation button.
Click it on the post you wish to leave reputation for, select either "Approve" (positive reputation) or "Disapprove" (negative reputation) and, if you wish, leave a message. Then click "Add to Reputation" to complete the process.

    Q. How can I see how many reputation points I have?
    There are three ways:

    1. The number of green or red bars next to your posts (see below for details).
    2. The message you see displayed when you place your mouse over the light bars (see below for details).
    3. Click on User CP (on the bar at the top of the forums), scroll down to the Latest Reputation Received box, and look at the top right corner. You will find a number on the right side of the orange bar signifying how many reputation points you've earned ("___ points total").

    Q. What do the green/red bars next to my posts mean?
Each bar signifies that that you've reached a certain level of repuatation.

    Q. What do the messages shown when the rep bar is hovered over mean?

This is another function of reputation levels. It does not directly contribute to how much power to affect others' reputations a user has.

    Rep Ranks:
    Spoiler: As of 2014-12

    Q. How do I see the reputations I've been left?

In the User CP, under latest reputation recieved.

    Q. How can I figure out who gave me a reputation comment?

Unless you're a mod, or a Super Moderator or an admin checks your profile for you, there is no way to be certain. The only other way to know is if they leave their name in the rep, or you can figure it out by the comment they left.

    Q. What do the colors in the reputation recieved window signify?

    Negative Rep: You lose points.
Null Rep: Member who repped you doesn't meet the requirements to give rep away. Your points stay the same.
    Positive Rep: You gain points.

    Q. How many points do I give with each reputation?
    Rough estimate:
-For every 7 days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
-For every 50 posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
-For every 1000 points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
You start with 2 points of reputation power.

Note that negative reps only have HALF the power of a positive rep.

    Q. How often can I leave reputation comments?
You can only give reputation to between 10 and 20 people in a 24 hour period, depending on how much time you wait between each. Giving many reputations out in a short period will quickly max you out for the day.

    Q. Why can't I rep the same person again?
To prevent abuse of the rep system, the number of times you can rep the same person is limited based upon the number of reputation comments you've left in all and the number you've left that particular person. If you find you can't give someone reputation, you'll have to rep other people before you can rep that person again.

    Q. What's the difference between reputation points and reputation power?

Reputation points is the amount of reputation you have in total; reputation power is the amount you change someone's rep points when repping them.

    Q. What is rep abuse?

    Rep abuse constitutes the following:
    1. "Repwhoring" - Getting involved in a circle of friends to rep each other as much as possible and/or continually asking for rep, either with or without contributing something to be repped for. Even if it is only back and forth between two people constantly it still counts as rep whoring.

-Rep me and I'll rep you back sigs.

-Basically, if we see that you are repping people back for no other reason than to boost their rep amounts the staff will intervene as we see fit.

-Making threads asking for people to rep you.

-Posting "REP ME" or any variants that are synonymous to it in any and all threads on the boards.

-Sets that suggest rep whoring or "REP ME" are up for interpretation.

-Asking for rep via different mediums. (IMs, PMs, Rep messages etc)

    2. Leaving nothing but or almost nothing but negative reputation comments for people in general.
    3. Leaving nothing but or almost nothing but negative reputations or repeatedly leaving negative reputation for the same member.
    4. Revenge negging (Member A neg reps Member B, Member B negs Member A back). Meaning do not neg someone just because they negged you. However, the staff may not punish you if it is seen as a legitimate neg even if it is in a short time frame. The staff may not act if we believe the rep in return is valid or if the person does not have a history of doing it. If we see you baiting a member in a rep just so they would neg you back we may rep ban you instead. in a neg you. Also do not ask another person to neg someone for you because you are unable to neg them at the moment.
    5. Gang Negging (Getting a group of 2 or more people to go and neg one or more people).
    6. Going in to opposing Fanclubs just to neg one of its members or associates. There is no reason to go into an opposing faction and neg for something you don't agree with when you shouldn't be there in the first place.
    7. Using flaming, cursing, and insults in reputation comments.

Acceptable use for positive rep is to reward a post, thread, set (Avy/Sig), and/or contribution (Pimps, translations, etc). Acceptable use for negative rep is to disapprove of a post, thread and/or set (Avy/Sig). Any other motive for repping (positively or negatively) is rep-crime and is subject to sanction including extended or permanent rep ban and/or large or complete rep cuts. The staff are given wide discretion, sometimes complete discretion, as to the interpretation of your rep behavior and, once accused of rep-crime, the burden falls upon the accused to prove innocence. Furthermore, staff are given wide discretion, sometimes complete discretion, as to the sanction to be incurred for rep-crime and may include behavior unrelated to the rep-crime when determining said sanction.

Rep abuse is serious misconduct, and can result in
    1. Your reputation being disabled/put into the negative
    2. A ban(seal), slash, and/or rep reset

Questions, comments or concerns can be left here.

Because to me, "Glorius beacon of light" sounded just a LITTLE better then "much to be proud of"

Sweet, I am glad the mouseover provides more info. And I just hit "honorable bastion of truth" a few days ago too. Thanks for updating the info for us.

I love it. Is there anyone that this applies to now? I thought KK and NN deleted their uber-rep.

Are you sure there aren't some x's instead of /'s in there? I am getting closer and closer to 1 as I go through those computations, and I know I rep for at least 100 XD

    53544/75 + 3981/50 + 38 (about the # of weeks) = about 830

    Not too exciting.

    Can't a guy be facetious? :p

Anyways, it has come to my attention that several folks have attained "Celestial" status. Since there is no way we'll ever get to "Cheater," could one of you lovely higher-ups kindly add another rank for us to strive for? Like "Divine," "Ethereal," or something uber-awesome like "Orgasmic"? :D

I just don't want to stagnate, ya know? :wink

No, that is unrelated. You had your rep disabled, everyone else can still rep.

    Two new Rep ranks,

User is Ascendant for 100,000 points, and
User is Transcendant for 200,000 points.

I'm the only Ascend at the moment. :knk [/shameless]
