I'm inclined to say Heimdall. Because Diomedes beat the tar out of Ares.

Well I know a hell of alot about greek mythlogy and a little about paggan, but I'm totally in the dark about Norse. Therefore given my limited knowledge I go with the most badass preptime mofo of all time ARES

This is one-on-one I presume? Ares has henchlings, and badass ones too. Heimdahl IS a henchling.

With preptime and henchlings, Heimdahl is dead as Balder.

    One-on-one, Heimdahl takes it, barely.

Oh that was his name, Baldr or something. Anyway, prep time wasn't specified...so I'll go with Heimdall.

Well, actually norse gods are not particularly powerful, when it comes to powers and abilities etc. Or rather, I guess it is inconsistent, because in some stories they actually does some pretty inhuman things, while in most they seem more like physically strong wizards. I say wizards, because many of their abilities are magic in nature (if it is not them doing the magic, its an item...), even though it is also combined with raw power most of the time. However I know next to nothing about the Greek gods so I cannot really comment on who will win.

If it was Odin VS any Greek god though, I would vote for him, if for nothing else out of bias...

    Odin kicks all ass, obviously.
As for Heimdahl/Heimdall/Heimdal, he is the guardian of Valhalla, so I guess it´s safe to presume he could kill a little if he felt like. His first and foremost function is to warn the Aesir of Rangarok the day the jotnir attack, however. Among his powers are superhuman senses. He can hear the grass grow, amongst others. My knowlegde of Greek mythology is a bit more limited, but I´ve heard that Ares is also a god of cowardice. Can anyone back this up?
As for the Norse gods´powers being linked directly to items, that´s a tendency but not a rule. Thor once fished the Midgard Serpent, using a very ordinary rope, an anchor and an ox´s head as bait. The Midgard Serpent makes Gamabunta look like a speck.

Hey hey, I am not saying that the norse gods are not badass, which they certainly are (Or perhaps I am being nationalistic...? Nah, norse gods are badass, and that is a simple truth). But fact is, that they are not really that strong. Besides the Midgard Serpent got away... but then the Midgard Serpent and the Fenris wolf are forces to be reckoned with. Although Nidhug was no pussy either...
