Its not a teachers problem, its a problem for teachers from all around Oklahoma, according to the report they are already living on welfare and cheap housing, many of them are leaving the state to teach.

Teaching is one of the most under appreciated jobs, my bus driver makes nearly 50% more then my teachers did.

DeVos suggested privatizing schools and help fund the education of parents who can't afford one for their kids, and a teacher employed by a private school negotiates her own salary.

I do not agree with privatizing public school, sounds like 9 different disasters waiting to happen. Private schooling relies on parents paying for the school for the education, no way in hell is it sustainable replacement for public schooling.

Schools all across the united states are behind the ball on funding, Oklahoma specifically is having major financial issues, not just with schools.

Devoe is current Flash's villain's name. I for one second got confused about what Devoe is doing in this thread. Then I realized body changing evil mastermind Flash Villain Devoe is not the one being talked here.
    It is Secretary of Education.
    How silly of me.

You'd rather have the teachers going unpaid?

Why not? It would be a lot cheaper to help out parents with the funding where they can't afford it than it would be to try to maintain the entire school industry.

And privatizing public schools would help out with that because it would be cheaper.

Too bad there's no overfunded part of the government that could have its budget cut to increase teacher salaries.

It's great how people in this thread blame the federal government, when it's Oklahoma's own state government who made dumb tax laws that ruined their budget. :lmao

Teachers are getting paid in every other state, there seem to be core issues with Oklahoma.

You realize your just switching hands with the privatization of the industry? How would it end up cheaper to the poor or who are in poverty or those living week to week? The schools are cutting 20% of the teaching budget by removing a day off the week. The teachers don't even make enough where they can't live outside government funding like welfare. I think the schools are getting about as cheap as they can get.

Explain how it would be cheaper for people to pay a private school then send them to a public school. How can privatization cost cut even more while somehow paying the teachers more? Privatization isn't some magic solution.

Yeah, the people don't want to pay that much tax.

They'd get their children's education funded by tax payers. Those who can afford it will have to pay out of their own pocket.

There's more to schools than teachers...it's better to leave it in the hands of smart entrepreneurs who know where to cut corners and provide a proper education.

So what your saying is that the middle class should pay the tax to send the poor to the private schools and then pay the tuition fee's for private schooling? How does this solve Oklahoma's wide spread problem of funding, where they are telling state troopers to not fill up on gas, they are even letting drunk drivers go because they can't even process the tickets.

Yeah there is more to schools, but you spend the most amount of money on man power to teach things. Building the school, paying for the supplies costs a lot, but books can last a decade, furniture can last several years, the school building itself lasts decades. The teachers are the ones costing you millions per year, the amount they pay for supplies on a year to year basis is paltry compared to it. Privatization doesn't have the infrastructure to teach all the students, so a mass movement would mean that they would have to pay for the old school buildings or build new ones.

Not exclusively the middle class, but the tuition should be tax funded, yes.

Those issues would have to be handled seperately. But more tax money is going to make it a lot easier.

Not all private schools have to be equal.

So private schools are funded through tax dollars? Where have I heard that before?

So your saying we should increase taxes to pay for the new private/public school system?

Not all public schools are equal either. Have you ever seen the difference between a suburban school district and a urban district?

It's interesting how fast the US is progressing on the downwards spiral.
From the golden period of the 90's, when the world still saw it as a great place to be and admired, to the current sad state.
Bush may have provided a bunch of jokes to the international community, but now the US itself is becoming a laughingstock with Trump as a major symptom.

The change in public perception from my youth to now is a drastic shift.
Treating your public educational system like this, will only make matters worse.

Then people need to get over themselves. US taxes simply put are far too low and the money that is being used by tax payers money are going into the wrong areas. Like the next super carrier fleet or whatever is needed to make sure the Most Serene Republic of San Marino can't invade.

US does need to have a tax increase and tax payers money moved from areas like military into areas that are desperately needed. Infrastructure, education, health.

Democrats on the other hand want to make education an echo chamber.

    All 12 years?

Define decent member and explain why it takes at least 12 years o get there? What is the guarantee that it wil nnt be middle management with the job cuts?

People will absorb what they want in this century and there is not much you can do about it.

Even Shithole like indonesia know the importance of education. Our constitution stated 20% budget shall go for education/research (tho loopholes etc make it that only less than 20 % purely adsorbed there)

Imagine US, China, EU, Japan spend their 20% on education/research. We would be visiting Pluto by 10 yrs
