Been really looking forward to this one since I don't play the games and the first ep delivered. :bury

Love the awakening sequence for Joker, ripping off the mask of injustice is just so sick looking, and Arsense is a complete beast.
Feel like it had a stronger start than P4 at least to me, which really hypes up the potential for greatness. More Joker :wtf

Is it the same as P4 except different character designs or should I expect a bigger difference?

They all share similarities since same franchise :oldshrug Though if you disliked P3 or P4 or Trinity Soul then you probably won't like P5 either.

From first ep alone I'm finding P5 cooler than P4, a bit more likeable animation style (to me) and a better MC.

Though I kinda liked Izanagi better as a persona compared to Arsene, but Arsene's still pretty awesome nonetheless, and it's only based off first impression.

Strong first episode. Kinda blasted through the start of the game's events but it showed everything that needed to be shown. Can't wait to see Arsene and maybe even Captain Kidd in action next ep :kfam

Also, what's up with Joker's real name? I thought it was supposed to be Akira Kurusu.

They wanted to distinguish the main character a bit from the manga I suppose :oldshrug

From the perspective of an anime watcher this episode was too vague and didn't really do anything satisfying. The characters look great, but I need more of a reason to give a fuck about Joker than this vague information about him hurting someone else in the recent past.

    Yeap, sent you a link

I'm sure we'll get it, Persona typically first introduces the 'Persona' aspect and then dives into the details of the story.
Though it looked like someone (female) was being raped/molested/beat and he acted on it and stopped the guy probably saving her life, hence his anger when his guardian says 'If you see something... look away.'

He doesn't want to look away from the injustice in the world, thus he acts which allows him to see beyond the real world.

Tbf, the game wasn't very clear on the specifics either at the beginning. You only get a vague idea. But yeah, that's basically how Persona always does things.

I mean I did watch Persona 4 so I get that, but all I mean is that there's little to go on or care about so far.

Well it is just the first episode. Lots of anime don't reveal a lot at the beginning. Anyway, it wasn't bad, I liked it. Looking forward to the rest.

i wouldnt want the episode to be filled with overt expository hogwash the entire time

but it being in an anime format did feel like everything was happening fast

Just watched the first episode. Some minor differences between what happened in the game and the anime, but other than that, it seems faithful to the adaptation.

Also I laughed way too fucking hard on
    Spoiler:
the scene where Kawakami dropped the flyer for her alternative job. :skully

I think further down the line, there's going to be a lot more differences. They simply have no choice for the sake of brevity and fluidity considering the game is incredibly long. As long as they stick to the main message and provide good production value I'll be satisfied.

    Spoiler:
    that was great :lmao

Oh my god... What was that All-Out Attack. I'm laughing out loud at how badly it was animated.

True. It's virtually impossible to fit everything that happened in the game (excluding side stories from Confidants) within 24 episodes. Maybe if it was up to 50 episodes, I can see it possible that they can fit everything and maybe some. On average, we can assume that each of the "arcs" that happened in Persona 5 (excluding Confidant stuffs) lasts for 3 episode, which could be enough to cover just enough.

That's true. Personally, I hope they make more use out of the absorbing art style and animation. The all-out attack seemed a bit lacklustre.

I did enjoy the cheekiness of Akira when he addressed Ryuji as Sakamoto :hurr

Watched this out of curiosity because the Persona games are often held in high regard, but yeah, are games-to-anime shows ever actually good? Sometimes the show has this somewhat "high production quality" tone to it, other times it's like they already ran out of budget after 2 episodes.

But oh well. I'm not familiar with the games, but I do know FUTABA WAIFU

You can see her for 1 second or less in the opening, so that already confirms this as BEST ANIME THIS YEAR you heard it here first!
