Everyone I talk to says I should just be able to put it in there and it'll play. But all that happens is realplayer opens up, says it needs new software and that there isn't any.

I've tried setting the default media player to Windows Media but it still opens with RealPlayer.

    Help please.

For one, unintall realplayer. It's pure garbage.

    Second dowload and install VLC:

It will play DVD format. After you have installed VLC insert a DVD into your DVD rom drive. If an auto prompt doesn't come up you can goto my computer right click on the DVD drive in question and select "play/open with VLC".

If you don't have that option you can run the player itself and under the file menu you can select "open disc".

Are you running CPU intensive apps while playing?

That should be good to go with no lag.

Try a different player. AVS DVD player is also free to use:
