Anyone play any kind of poker? Like Hold 'em? Stud (hi/lo)? Omaha (hi/lo)? What's your favorite game? Any fun stories?

I'll start. I was playing a small hold 'em tourney with some friends ($10 buy-in), and got pocket 4's. Flop comes 4 Ace 2. Someone goes all-in, I call with my set of 4's. He flips over Ace Queen. I'm cheesing. The turn comes, a Queen, so I'm still thinking no worries. He rivers, another Queen! I was blown like anything.

    Anyone else have similar experiences?

Weekly poker tourneys with friends got me through AP Senior year in High School. Starting in January, I think, most the AP guys and some of the girls got together every Friday after school to play a Hold 'em tournament. About half way through the year, some teachers joined. It was cool.

I love playing poker, like so many others, hold 'em is my fav game. I don't have lots of stories though since I just recently moved away from home and dad forbade me to gamble for money (didn't want me to follow in his footsteps.. well I will anyway! lol). I'm currently looking for people to play with in this town.. but should find some soon me thinks.

Poker is great. I play with my friends all the time. I used to play online, but I learned real quick that it's a different ball game. I watched the World Series all the time when it was on and a new WPT season is starting soon that I'll probably watch. I just love it. A year ago I thought it was the most boring thing on earth but now I can't get enough of it.

I love the online games. The WPT brought in so many fish (especially in Hold'em), and I'm just raking in the dough.

Actually, i just played hold 'em last night with some friends. I had pocket 3 and 10. Flop is 3 4 3. Someone raises, i follow, 3 wuss out. Turn is a 9. He checks, I check. River is a 6. I go all in with my 35 bucks, he follows. I started to laugh while showing my triple 3. But turns out that he had the last 3 of the game. But his kicker was a King and mine was a stupid 10. I got up, went outside and screamed my lungs out. Neighbors called the cops on us.

I play every saturday night with my parents and a few friends of the family. last week I was down on chips when I caught pocket bullets (aces). I go all in before the flop since I'm low on chips. everyone folds except my mother who's won every game we've played except 1 within the past 4 weeks (we usually play 2 games a night) I flip over my aces and she has a 3 and a 5. flop comes up. 2 4 6. ARGH! STRAIGHT RIGHT OFF THE FLOP! I was done from there. it really gets frustrating when the same person wins every week >.<

i like hold em the best, altho its kinda weird since pretty much EVERYONE plays now for some reason. the people in my dorm stopped asking me to play cause i dominate everyone. they didnt flat out say that, but its pretty obvious. the first time i played with the people in my wing i won $40. they're pretty bad and i really wanna play soon!

i need to work on my omaha game. im still a bit rusty on that but with time and exposure all will be fine. omaha is just so much more high action oriented and the way of thinking compared to hold em is so different.

Pocket bullets? They're simply called bullets.
And that's tough shit, especially since she held nothing, but I'm not a huge fan of aces. I prefer A-K because there are more aces out there for the idiots who play ace-rag, and you can rake a serious pot. With aces, you usually win a little or lose a lot.

In school we use to play for pushups

    3 if you fold
Raising to a maximum of 40 (we had to put in a limit because we had idiots betting 1 million pushups and obviously leaving and not doing them)

I had a good laugh when i got a flush, managed to raise it to 40 and won leaving 2 guys doing 40, the other had folded earlier

then i got another flush the hand after that and raised it to 40

one of the guys that did 40 didn't believe that i could have something good twice in a row and saw my 40 and got to do another 40 :D

    Pushups is awesome
money is easy to get rid of
pushups really hurt after 3 hours of poker :)

So is 40 pushups the equivalent of "all in" in terms of pushups? :)

also, how do you "Get out"? when you get too tired?

i mean, once i shouted straight! triumphantly, and i had 4 cards :notrust

i dont even know what a flush is :blink

    For you shika...

    Rank of poker hands:
    LOWEST
high card- no pairs...no nothing...just your highest card in your hand representing
pair - two of the same value card...the last 3 cards serve as the tiebreaker
two pair - two pairs...the 5th card serves as a tiebreaker card known as a kicker
three of a kind- three of the same value card...again last two cards used as tiebreaker
straight- all five cards in sequential order...no matter what color/suit they are
flush- all five cards are of the same suit (all hearts...all clubs...etc)
full house- three of a kind + pair in one hand
four of a kind- four cards of the same rank
straight flush- all 5 cards in sequential order AND of the same suit
Royal flush- special straight flush that has 10 J Q K A all of same suit

    Deidara again

watch out for online poker places...sometimes they're rigged...sometimes not...

Holy crap, a poker thread out of no where. I was looking for one of these...

I'm a huge poker fan. My fav game is seven stud, low Chicago, but I usually end up playing hold 'em like the rest of the world. It started two years ago in the dorms where I learned the game the hard way. Man I lost money! But I gained it all back that summer when I taught the game to my fellow camp counselors.

Started watching the WPT and the World Series. Every now and then I'll watch Celebrity Poker Showdown. I've read Super System, Caro's book of Tell's, and Gordon's book, and a book written by Lederer's sister all several times.

Today I mastered a twelve ship riffle. I can only do that many with my left hand though as I practice while reading posts here and use my right hand to scroll.

My favorite casino is the Hollywood in Tunica where the dealers know my name. I'm thinking about trying to go pro, and my father thinks I can do it enough to the point that he is sponsoring me several hundred dollars to see if I can't get a bankroll started. In fact, I'm driving down to Shreveport later today to play my ass off and win money off of old people.

    As for poker hands
    J 5: Jackson five
    5 5: Speed Limit
    10 2: Doyle Brunson

My favorite player is Howard Lederer, followed closely by Phil Gordon, Phil Ivy, and Daniel Negraneu (or however you spell that last name).

My worst beat, at the Tunica, playing a $3/ $6 game of limit hold 'em. I was up like $200 bucks (that's double what I bought in for) when I got three big hands in a row. First hand: Bullets. I reraised before the flop but everyone called. The flop came out three small cards, with a long shot straight draw, all rainbow. I raised here and someone reraised me. All others folded and I called. I got by with just calling from there out, and he ended up with a pocket pair of threes that tripped.
Second hand: Look down to an A-Qs, by all estimates a decent hand, tier two, and very playable from a late position, especially in limit hold 'em. I flopped queens, raised and got called. To the showdown, no over cards, no straight draw, the guy hit a flush on the river.
Third hand: Stayed in with big slick. Folded immediately on the flop as I did not hit the board and was down $240 from the last two hands. I was so shaken as at the time that was a lot of money to me. A trip to Beal Street and a couple of drinks later and I was fine.

    Poker rocks!
