    Probably because a blanket ban was premature and reactive. Even the most hopeful future requires natural gas for backups and heating, unless the government actually starts building nuclear plants itself.

    This is a ban on political donations not on the whole country using it.

    Even if you know it will take time to stop using fossil fuels, the first thing you need to do is to stop accepting lobbying from companies who will try to pull you into the opposite direction.

    The point is that they'll be important to a transition that will last decades, not to mention that they will likely finance it. And so why not have their patronage?

    They will want the dems to support the oil industry.

    So accepting money to support the oil industry when you are planning to abandon oil over time is not exactly productive...

    I mean, you could have started this discussion by saying "I am against abandoning oil ever", but pretending you don't know how lobbying works has been a fun exercise.
