Since I've been feeling more punkasfuck than usual lately and since I can't sleep I came up with this idea from sheer boredom.

Let's all remember a time when new artists were still challenging convention and gave everyone the finger.

David Bowie - Giving a fake fellatio to his bass player onstage to piss off skins who hated him and anyone in general.

NOFX - Throwing 10 Grand into the mosh pit at a show because the audience "paid too much to see them".

Nirvana - Kurt and Krist kissing on SNL to piss of the homophobes and the network.

The Beatles - John Lennon saying The Beatles were bigger than Jesus. He said he didn't mean it, but you know he did. He might've just been stoned as fuck, but he probably knew exactly what he was saying.

Iggy Pop - Punkasfuck in general. :amuse

Your turn. Let us know of the moments that gave the finger to the man.

Johnny Cashes advertisement in the Nashville paper, 'thanking' Nashville for dropping him. It's a fairly famous picture.

The Exploited - When they smacked a guy in the audience with a hammer :D Sure enough, it was a friend of mine.

The Stranglers - The bassist taking his bass and smacking a guy that wouldn't stop taking pictures, even when they asked him to.

Haven't "Against me!", so any pimpage is welcome. :amuse

Remember that this thread is not about which band sucks or is good punk.

Dead Kennedys - Playing on the back of a truck outside the Republican National Convention.

Jimi Hendrix - Lighting his guitar on fire at the Monterey pop festival.

John Lennon - While playing before members of the British Royal Family: "Will the people in the cheaper seats clap your hands? And the rest of you, if you'll just rattle your jewelry." *punkasfuck seal of approval*

Godspeed You Black Emperor! - To punk for their own good.

NoFX- When they recorded the song "Murder The Government". I mean, come on.

The Bad Religion pit two years ago at warped when some drunk guy threw a metal trash can into the circle pit and got the shit beat out of him by about 15 drunken crazed gutter punks.

H2O- The concert was too loud and the cops tried to shut it down...apparently people could hear it clearly from their houses. The closest house was around five miles away.

The punk/ ska bands i like-
AFI, Aquabats, Bad Religion, Bigwig, Circle Jerks, The Clash, Converge *, The Descendents, Flogging Molly, Goldfinger, Guttermouth, H2O, The Hippos, Lagwagon, Lars Fredricksen and The Bastards **, Less Than Jake, Link 80, The Mad Caddies, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Millencolin, MXPX, No Use For A Name, NoFX, The Offspring ***, Operation Ivy ****, Pennywise, The Pietasters, Pulley, Rancid, Reel Big Fish, RX Bandits, Spitvalaves, The Misfits, Tiger Army, The Toasters, U.S. Bombs, The Vandals, and finally, The Voodoo Glow Skulls.

    Note Marks-
    *-Though that's stretching punk.
**-That band makes up for Rancid's god awful latest cd.
***-Ixnay on The Hombre was pretty punk
****-if you don't think they're punk, then get the fuck out of here.

I don't really listen to punk as a style, but more as an ideology. Alot of bands that I listen to that I consider punk are not playing three distorted chords. So keep that in mind, while reading this list.

Band that I consider punk that rule (most of them are really in the indie/alt rock genre):
Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Mogwai, Xiu Xiu, Fugazi, Husker Du, Pixies, The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Explosions In The Sky, Do Make Say Think, The Pavement, Dinosaur Jr, Sex Pistols (highly overrated but still good), The Stooges, (early) Clash etc. I'm sure I have forgoten to mention some important ones, but I'm to lazy now.

    They did? Didn't know that!

ahh . . . the ideology of punk. i'm little lazier than that, but then again after writing my absurdly long thesis on the socio-political aspects of punk music, tracing it back through the beginnings of the modernist movement in literature - my brain is a bit fried, lol.

since you're tastes seem a bit varied, where do you fall on post-punk. joy division, devo, gang of four, etc?

I think things such as these--

--are far more "punk" than any idiotic slamming over the head with a hammer or a trashcan.

Anyway, I loved it when Sinead O'Connor(sp?) ripped up the picture of the pope on SNL.

Haven't really explored post-punk that much aside from Talking Heads, The Fall and Joy Division. Joy Division though were and still are the shit, favourite song is Heart & Soul, just haunting.

Don't care much about the Fall. :/

Zappa making a spoof at The Beatles cover of Sgt. Pepper in We Are Only In It For the Money is kickass

John Coltrane and Thelinous Monk playing jamming togther in what was probabily the most badass jazz collab of all time.

Robert Johnson selling his soul to the devil to play the guitar

MF DOOM passing joints to everyone in the club.

    Johnny Cash's FU pic.

    Johnny Cash in general

N.W.A singing Fuck The Police (might seem pointless now, but back then, it raised hell)

    Public Enemy in general

Some people think that little girls should be seen and not heard, but I think OH BONDAGE, UP YOURS!

She had some of the freshest lyrics of her time. X-Ray Spex were amazing.

    And seriouisly. WENDY O. WILLIAMS.

And when Prince kicked over the microphone stand at the 1985 American Music Awards.
