i used to think reincarnation was crazy but i realized is it any more crazy than what christianity believes?
reincarnation- when you die you come back to life as another living being until you reach a perfect state and then the cycle ends
heaven/hell- if you are good and have a life without sin you go to heaven which is a perfectplace and if you sin you go to hell a terrible place where you are constantly burning and being tortured by demons and satan

Of course reincarnation is better, at least you get a 2nd chance. But both are crazy anyway. Nihilism does right, saying every thing was and is made by hazard!
Please you believers don't us nihilists. We're friendly.:nod

If all of mankind died, there would be no reincarnation, which means there would have to be a place where souls could go.

Most likely, when someone dies, its the end. That soul stops to exists. There is no heaven, hell or reincarnation. There won't be anyone expecting us to tell us the meaning of life, if the universe is endless (if not, whats at the end), how was the universe created, when was it created, what was there before...

The whole Heaven and Hell ideia was created by high intelects in order to form a society where people know there will be a retribution for their acts.

People just don't want to accept that they might die without ever knowing the answers for the ancient questions above mentionned.

Or perhaps when we die we become corpless souls free to wander the universe, searching for our answers.

I believe in Reincarnation and "The Otherside"(What most call heaven), Hell makes our god look like a fuckin asshole so I dont believe it. I also believe in the high possibility that the soul would cease to exist once the shell(body) dies.

Meh ill know the truth when I die. =P

You guys are forgetting that one reason the concept of Reincarnation exists is because of the caste system.

People used to need an answer for why they were in a lower class. Reincarnation told them it's because they had bad karma, and sinned in a past lifetime. It also probably gave them hope that they'd be born again into a better life, or escape samsara alltogether and reach nirvana.

Basically both seem just as hokey when you consider their origins. I believe in Heaven, though.

When you die, you die. You cease to exist, with the exception of the memories of you that those who knew you possess (which really isn't yourself), and your body (if it's still intact). Both of the concepts mentioned are beliefs to avoid the acceptence of this.

Why is it you seem to think atheism and reincarnation are mutually exclusive? Atheism is a belief in regards to deities, reincarnation is a belief in the afterlife.

I'm an atheist who believes in reincarnation through the principle of karmic forces, not some individual arbitrator...that the idea of causal forces perpetuating all present, past, and future actions in a cyclical manner, much like time and space itself, is not so crazy.

To even try to limit reincarnation to some silly contention that it must be linked to the gods ignores that it has rooting in Buddhism, Hinduism, and other philosophies from Plato( ) and the history of many other religions, atheistic and theistic.

Atheist, but like the idea of reincarnation. I also believe in the uncanny workings of Karma.

I don't like the idea of either, I could care less about being reborn or living a second life after I die in a heaven or an hell but it is scary as hell when you think of the other alternative.

Not having a life anymore, not being able to feel, think, breathe or anything and just being nothing. It freaks me out whenever I think about it, gives me the chills.

    I'll take Heaven/Hell.

    1) Several people have posited elsewhere that if "god" set up the world as it stands today, then god is cruel. By this standard, reincarnation as a whole is really rather nasty as it puts people through the cycle multiple times.

    2) The Heaven/Hell system doesn't imply an annihilation of the psycho-personal self as an end state. Yes, you may reach ultimate contentment after multiple cycles of reincarnation, but if you reach it and your self no longer exists, then you would never enjoy your "reward."

    That's...exactly what I just said.

    :huh

This makes sense to me. I like the idea of being reunited with one's creator during your own "self's" existence.

I used to love the idea of reincarnation, now I just want to return to the world of atoms and be 'recycled' into anything...the thought that the entire universe (including living things) is made up of the same matter and everything is connected in some way is so fascinating and beautiful...until you stop and think about the relationship between you and a pile of shit...still an awesome concept, though.

The big bang doesn't really explain much. It just explains how planets and stars were created.

It doesn't truly explain how the universe began.

    Depends.

If you are going to hell, then reincarnation would be better.

Imo, living in this damn body and place is too much of a hell for me not to want to come back(Many Christians believe hell is actually Earth)

The only thing I'm absolutely sure of, is that everything will eventually change.

And as such if only change itself is forever. Change = Time = God.

But if change is the only thing that always exists, then that means even your own unconciousness won't be forever...

I think reincarnation doesn exist. Neither does heaven nor hell. Only reproduction :/ Though I'm leaning towards reincarnation.

Reincarnation and reproduction would keep the population in balance. If heaven and hell existed, it would be FLOODED with people.
