I've been looking through some of the old chapters and come across something that I couldnt really piece to gether. Take a look the lower left panels of these two pages:

    Spoiler:

    Spoiler:

Now, I have come two two possibilities.

1). Sasuke is merely pointing out the fact that Sai's decision to protect Naruto is the correct decision rather than Yamoto choosing to protect Sakura. In other words Naruto's life is more valuable than Sakura's in Sasuke's eyes.

2). Or perhaps Sasuke is hinting to some sort of weakness that he may have. Sai uses his hand/own strength to hold off Sasukes attack. Yamato uses regular kunai knives/weapon as his defense against Sasuke. Perhaps it has something to do with defending against Sasuke's lightning sword techniques.

Anyway, this has been troubling me. Can anyone give their take on the situation?

It may have something to do with going head to head against his sword. Sai grabbed his wrist while Yamato tried to block it with his kunai. I think you may be reading too much into it. :p

Sasuke is nothing without his drugs

    lol jk

But...yes, I think this is just reading too much into the whole thing.

Sasuke obviously thinks very highly of his little sword, so Sai's decison to grab his wrist was the better defense in Sasuke's eyes

Sasuke likes it when other boys touch him so he stops his attack. Grab him in the crotch and he's defenseless.

well, in Arnis (eskrima), a defense/counter goes like this: brush, hold, strike.

Sai did exactly that; in fact, come thing of it, Sai is holding an eskrima stick; when only one hand is used, brush hold strike is better, and my sensei think it's also better than brush-brush-strike or brush-strike-strike of double stick.

Sai grabbed Sasuke's wrist and stopped the sword's movment. Yamato tried to guard against Sasuke's sword, but the sword went right through his guard, literally.

Sai successfully stopped Naruto from getting impaled.

    Yamato got impaled.

    Pretty simple :amuse

Hmmm...thats interesting. So your saying its more of a fighting style/technique thing. And it would also seem ironic that Sais choice of weapon is a brush.

Maybe im looking too deep into these pages, but I have come to understand that you should never underestimate even the smallest details, as they may give rise to incredible outcomes, especially in manga fiction.

Agreed with Sasuke3759. I'll also add that Sasuke mentioned something about his sword being special and can't be blocked. Yamato tried to block it with his kunai, that's why he got impaled. Sai on the other hand stopped Sasuke's stab by holding unto his wrist. Had Sai opted to block Sasuke's sword, he and Naruto woul've been stabbed as well.

Ehm, why do you make is so complicated?
It's much easier then you think.

Sasuke only implies that Sai's choice of defense was correct, to grab his hand instead of blocking with his kunai/sword, wich obviously Sasuke would've cut through.

Yamoto's choice of defense was incorrect due to that he used his kunai to block Sasuke's sword, wich Sasuke cut through like butter.

Not enough hatred, too much ego... and emo.

Last two problems can be solved by knocking him in the head.

First problem can't really be solved by anything.

Still, blocking kusanagi with a normal kunai? Yamato's not very bright is he?

Being molested for 2,5 years by a 53 year old snakelike pervert that eventually wants to "posses" you (and not just your ass) can cause some serious hatred.

Really, I agree with the mace thing. That's akin to Professor X and his wheel-chair weakness, so that wins.

I think it was simply that Sai was right to grab his wrist and Yamato was wrong to try and block an unblockable sword. Simple.

    Its simple...

    Spoiler:

Sai blocked the attack, he wasn't hurt. He knew how to do it.
Yamato didn't know how to and so was stabbed.

Sai did it right. Yamato did it wrong.
