This is an old debate on one piece swordmanship.
We can also add the discussion to the Rankyaku of the CP9.

Doed Slash strenght have anything (even partialy) to do with phisical capacities?

Does mihawk slash in MF prove he was way stronger that zoro in phisical strenght , (if we don't count Haki , swordmanship level ect ...) ?

    Obviously.

    Physical strength.
    Sword Quality.
    Skill.

    In that order imo.

You need the basic skill required to do the attack but the power behind it is strength mostly.

    Partially.

    1. You must have some skill to perform this kind of attack. Give Franky sword and he would do nothing with it, even through he should be physically superior to Skypiea Zoro.

    2. You need strength to put some force into your slash too.

Agree and this is the reason i dont like swordsmanship in OP.
These 3 should be equally important.
BM has zero finesse yet her slashes can wreck 90% of the verse including swordsmen with far more skill than hers.

    Lol.

If it was a physical skill Mihawk should be able to break buildings (islands?) with his hands, G4 Luffy style.

No. It's more like a metaphysical (spiritual) ability, mixing both legendary magical swords and magical "mental" skills.
Physical strenght is just a bonus.

Pretty obvious when you know a bit about japanese koryu bujutsu's philosophy (like for the tenshin shoden katori shinto ryu's school).

It's a pretty spiritual shit, about breathing, concentration, and quietness of mind. It's all about mind strenght. The body then follows.

Anyone who practiced traditional martial arts knows it... :sure

It's called the power of destruction and it's cannonically about strength to a ridiculous degree.

Check ths difference between pre skip and post skip zoro vs shushui zoro and non shusui zoro.

If kaku and the rest of the memester at cp9 can create air slashes with their legs then skill is minimum but then again sanji cant do it.
Although he being < pre skip cp9 members would explain a lot about his post skip trash filled showing.

Yes. Brook confirmed as much in Thriller Bark."to shoot a thrust like that.. just how strong is he?" First you probably need to learn how to throw flying slashes but their scale increases based on the physical strength.

Yes physical strength = slash strength.

Why do you think it was a big deal for Zoro to cut steel back then?

Give Garp, Kaido, or any high/top tier physical monster a sword and I bet they would be able to send flying slash to.

I guess Zoro was a wrong example. I really am talking in general. We see in one piece when someone cuts something of great durability they go what strength or something to that effect.

Its Power of destruction, its based off of ones muscle strength, Zoro interestingly developed this after Alabasta and it has continued to get better as he physically got stronger.

Franky: He smashed open a vent.
Brook: Impossible! He sent that jab flying...
How much muscle must that take...?!

Brook: It was... at the same time...
So his slashes can fly as well!!
The samurai zombie... moves by the power of my shadow, now...
But in life, he must have been quite a powerful blademaster!!
It is possible that those two possess...
The same kind of musculature, as swordsmen.

Thats why his air slashes are so much more massive now.
Thats why even someone like Big Meme and her heinous swordsmanship can perform air slashes, because she is a physical freak,

I'm not American. Why so racist though what does it matter where people are from? :wha You won't hear me say "omg she is from France/Russia/insert country x y z!!!!!" big deal lol.

I think Brook is definitely referring to physical strength though his wording would be Really weird otherwise.:hm
