More reason now to check out Chernobyl to get familiarized with the writer's work before this comes out.

Replaying the game again as well will help. :hm

Please God kill this show. After the train wreck of the second game, anything with Druckmann is a disaster waiting to happen.

so it's just regular the last of us, only no one's pretending its a videogame any more
Careful...you might incur a stealth neg with any criticism.

After seeing what the sequel shat out, it would be a good idea not to go through with this.

What is this about?
The games? The setting is a "zombie" post-apocalyptic world. The first game was about a gun runner named Joel, who is hired to escort a girl named Ellie, who is the key to finding a cure for the Infected to a freedom fighter group called the Fireflies. And the second game, we don’t talk about that one.

I haven't played it but i have seen mixed reviews on it.

Lot of people hate it, lot of people love it and say the haters are just haters.

What about it do you think is bad?

The gameplay is great, the story and how certain characters are depicted is the problem. I won’t get into that because it’s really spoiler-y.

I said I wasn’t going to say anything about it but I’m bored and in a explanatory mood. Major spoilers for those that want to play the games.

Spoiler:
At the end of the first game, because Joel bonded with Ellie through their journey and saw her as a daughter after his actual daughter died in the prologue, he threw away the chance of there being a cure by killing the doctor that was going to perform surgery on her. There was this part of her brain that makes her resistant from getting infected, and of course taking it out would mean her death. She wasn’t conscious during all that so Joel lied to her that there were others like her that were immune.

Now then, the second game. Because of what Joel did in the end of the first is the catalyst to what causes what happens in the game to create the massive backlash. So the doctor Joel kills in the first game has a daughter named Abby and she was on a revenge mission. She tracked down the settlement Joel and Ellie were living at and during her search, Joel and his brother rescue her from a horde of Infected. Once her and her group got alone with them, she blasts off Joel’s kneecap and beats the shit out of him with a golf club. Ellie catches up and is forced to watch Abby bash Joel’s brains in.

So obliviously, Ellie wants revenge too and tracks her to Seattle. She goes on a rampage killing Abby’s group and eventually she comes to her after finding out she killed her friends. Fighting happens, and Abby was about to kill Ellie and her girlfriend until she finds out she’s pregnant, spares them and tells them to never come back. Time passes and Ellie settled with her girlfriend and her baby living on a secluded farm and she supposedly gave up her revenge until Joel’s brother gets her obsessed again.

Abby was down in California looking for other Fireflies (the freedom fighters from the first game which her father was also a part of) and she gets kidnapped by some bandits and is forced to work at their slave camp. Ellie finds and frees her and seeing how malnourished she was, almost let’s her go. But flashbacks of Joel keep her going and they get into another fight, even though Abby just wants to leave. Oh yeah, btw half the game you play as Abby and she’s accompanied by a transgender boy who was from a cult that didn’t accept him and they’re trying to making you feel sorry and understand Abby too. Ellie threatening to kill him was how she goaded Abby to fight her.

Anyways, even though Ellie mowed through the bandits to find her and wasn’t really 100% herself, she had the upper hand (another thing about the backlash was Abby’s supposedly unrealistic muscular physique, her being in the slave camp made her as scrawny if not scrawnier, than Ellie) was REAL close to killing that bitch until Ellie has a flashback about trying to forgive Joel for lying to her and just let’s her go.

That’s pretty much it. The whole game Ellie’s obsessed with avenging him, one of her best friends also killed by her surrogate father’s killer and she just lets her go scott free. They try to get you to sympathize Abby but you can see while playing she’s just a shitty person, even to her friends that Ellie and her group killed. You would have to see for yourself to better understand it but man they just handled it all poorly. It was unsatisfying and depressing.
