Welcome to NF! If you've been directed here then you must be a new member eager to learn the ins and outs of the forum and get yourself accustomed to everything. In this section of the Forum Walkthrough you'll find relevant information to help you out on that journey and make your life much, much easier!

Introduction:

When you first make an account on Naruto Forums one of the first steps to make is making an introduction thread . By doing this you give users a chance at getting to know you, while also meeting some of the userbase you'll see around the forums.​

No one is demanding an essay out of you, but some general info and interests are more than good to become the building blocks of your NF social life. Though as expected - the more info you give, the more common ground you may have with some users!​

Avatar & Signature​

What is an Avatar?

An Avatar is the image that's attached to all of your posts above your username, with it you can express your interests, creativity or personality.​

How do I use an Avatar?

At the top of the page when you hover over your username a dropdown menu will show up, at the top leftside of it you'll see the Avatar option. Click on it.​

Once clicked you'll be able to upload an image from your PC.​

Where do I go to put an Avatar on or Change it?

Return to the Avatar Editor as seen in above example and Choose File.​

I don't see the option to put an Avatar up?

If you don't see the Avatar option under the dropdown menu, nor have the ability to access the Avatar Editor it could be because of 2 things:​

• You have less than 25 posts.
• You've been Avatar banned.

If you're a new or old member with less than 25 posts you need to make the posts to advance into the standard member usergroup. Once 25 posts have been made send a message to any Staff Member to request the perms be added to your account, or alternatively make a thread in the Q&C section.​

If you have more than 25 posts and have been Avatar banned - in most cases you should have received a PM to go with it. If not make a thread in the Staff Conference Room.​

What are the size and dimension limits of an Avatar?

175Wx250H is the standard dimension for members. Contest winners however can win or buy with prize points 175Wx350H avatar permissions for a set amount of time.​

File Size limit is 1MB max, for both standard and contest avatar sizes.​

My gif Avatar isn't playing?

Make sure that it's within the dimension and file size limits, and that the gif render settings aren't outdated. If it's properly saved and within file size and dimension limits and still not working make a thread in the Q&C.​

Where do I go to get a Signature?

Right underneath the Avatar option in the dropdown menu as seen in above example with Avatars.​

How do I upload a Signature from my PC?

You cannot. You need to host your image on a site such as Imgur.​

My image isn't showing up in Signature?

This could be due to a few things:​

• Your link must be HTTPS and not HTTP.
• If it is an animated signature it must be GIF and not GIFV.
• The image may have been deleted or removed from the host site.

How do I get my Signature to show?

Make sure it follows the above guidelines, it has to be an HTTPS url, and if animated has to be GIF and not GIFV. As long as it meets those requirements it should show up just fine.​

I don't see Signature's when I post?

Return to the dropdown menu and under 'Preferences' make sure that the show signature option is checked. In the same manner you can disable signature's by unchecking the box.​

What are the rules for what can be shown in my Signature?

Extremely graphic, racially charged or sexual content cannot be used in signature's. This includes Genitalia, bare breasts and sexual acts.​

What are the size and dimension limits for a Signature?

700Wx300H is the standard size for all members, with a 3MB maximum on file size. This includes any extra images inside your signature space. Ignoring the size limits or signature rules repeatedly may result in a signature ban.​

Can someone make me an Avatar/Signature?

Yes! In the Art Lounge's , where members frequently post avatars/signature's for other members to use, in it you can also request members to edit/make avatars/signature's for you.​

 

Threads & Posts​

Can I change my user rank?

Yes you can! Return to the dropdown menu and click on Personal Details or simply click . Once there you'll see the Custom Title field where you can enter your custom user rank.​

My post count went down?

This could be due to a variety of reasons:​

• Your thread/the thread you posted in got trashed.
• Your post(s) were deleted due to being off-topic/spam.
• You posted in a convo thread which reached its ending and was archived.

My thread got trashed?

If you feel your thread was wrongly moved to the Konoha Landfill (trashed threads section) you can start a conversation with the section moderator in charge or make a thread in the Staff Conference Room. Threads are commonly trashed due to being irrelevant to the section it was placed in, being an attempt at baiting extreme reactions and similar reasons.​

Can I get a custom user rank?

Generally, yes! Though it depends on the level of customization. When you go to Personal Details you can enter anything in your title as is (within the constraints of the forum rules at least), however you cannot use HTML to fully customize your title.​

Contest winners on the other hand can purchase with prize points the permissions to be able to use HTML in their title which opens the door for custom image user ranks, coloured, italicized, bolded ranks and more.​

How do I see the latest posts made on the forum?

Click on New Posts as shown below.​

How do I see posts from a specific member?

The easiest method is visiting their profile, under the Information tab there's an option to view all content the user has posted, additionally there's the Postings tab which shows some of the latests posts they have made.​

Alternatively if you're interested in posts made in a specific section you can use the search option to look up posts made by a specific user.​

How do I link a specific post?

At the very bottom of the post you desire to link right click on either the post date or the # of the post and copy the URL, this link is a permalink which when clicked will take directly to that specified post.​

Why can't I vote on a poll?

Check that the poll is open, polls can have a time limit set up and once time runs out no more votes will be accepted.​

How do I change my thread title?

Under thread tools you'll see 'Edit Title', as long as it's your thread and the thread in question is open you can edit your title in this manner. If the thread is locked you'll need to contact the section moderator in charge.​

Can I get alerts when someone posts in my thread?

Yes you can, next to Thread Tools click on 'Watch Thread' this'll alert you for every new response made in that thread. You can also do this when creating a thread by checking the watch this thread box.​

Can I get alerts when someone posts in someone else's thread?

Yes you can, just watch the thread you're interested in by clicking Watch Thread next to thread tools.​

Alternatively if you want to see alerts for every thread you create and post in you can select that option in your preferences. To do so go back to the dropdown menu and click on Preferences, scroll down a bit and tick the box to watch all threads you make and post in.​

Another option if you wish to receive alerts for an entire section is clicking on 'Watch Forum' in a specific section.​

Can I see who posted in a thread?

Yes you can, right next to Thread Tools click on 'Top Contributors'. This'll show you who all posted in that thread.​

Can I see how much a specific person posted in a thread?

Yes you can, Top Contributors not only shows who all posted in a thread but also how many posts they made in that thread.​

Can I search for posts from a specific member inside a thread?

Yes you can, once you're inside the thread go to search bar up top and repeat the process from ''How do I see posts from a specific member?" and simply tick the 'Search This Thread Only' box. ​

Can I see the posts/threads I/another member made?

Yes you can, on your profile/another member's profile under the Information tab you can view all content (posts) or all threads you/the user made.

What's a threadmark?

Threadmarks are a convenient way to index important posts within your thread. Once a post is threadmark'd you can always jump directly to it from the index.​

How do I use threadmarks?
There's a few methods you can use once you're inside of your thread.

How do I view my profile?

To view your profile you can either click on 'Your Profile Page' from the dropdown menu or by clicking on your avatar within a thread and clicking on 'Profile Page'.​

How do I post a status message?

To post a status message you can do it in a multitude of ways, most of which are self explanatory:​

1. From the dropdown menu 'Update your status...'
2. From your profile page post a profile message on your profile
3. From the dropdown menu under Personal Details
4. From the front page of the forum under New Profile Posts
5. From the New Profile Posts area of Members tab

How do I comment on someone else's status message?

To comment on a status message is quite simple:​

1. From the front page of the forum under New Profile Posts click on the '...' (Interact) and it'll open up a popup which'll allow you to Like/Comment the status.
2. Visit the user's profile and Like/Comment in that manner.
3. From the New Profile Posts area of Members tab.

How can I see what a member is doing?

Click on their name and if they're not invisible or have their actions hidden it'll show up.​

How can I hide what I'm doing from other members?

Return to the dropdown menu and click on Preferences, under Options you'll find 'Show Current Activity' and 'Show Online Status'. To hide your actions simply uncheck the current activity box. ​

How can I hide my last online time completely?
In the same manner you hide your actions you can hide your presence completely and enter invisible mode, to do so uncheck the online status box.


How did a member just post something but they show as offline?
They're either in invisible mode, or logged out at that same moment. Click on their avatar and if there's no online time then they're in invisible mode.


How do I put up a cover image on my profile?

What are the size and dimension limits for a cover image?

You can have a maximum of 10 cover images with a maximum of 1MB per image.
The optimal dimensions for a snug fit is 950Wx400H, however with the reposition feature it can be larger as well.​

Which emotes are usable on profiles?

All of them. ​

How can I talk to a member?

To talk to a member you can post on their profile or comment on their status.
Or if you wish to talk in private start a conversation with them by either clicking on their avatar within a thread and clicking on 'Start a Conversation' or by clicking on your Inbox to the right or the dropdown menu where you can start a conversation as well.

What's a conversation?

A conversation is the Xenforo equivalent of a PM (Private Message) or DM (Direct Message), with it you can start a 1 on 1 conversation with another member; or invite multiple people into a group conversation. This allows for full privacy as compared to posting on their profiles. ​

What can I do in a conversation?

Conversate with your friend(s)! ​

Forum Interface & Settings

What are forum skins?

Forum skins are the different visual layouts accessible to the forum, from Naruto themed, to dark/light and more. ​

How do I change forum skins?

To change skins you can either access the dropdown menu and click on preferences; at the very top you'll see 'Style' with all the different skin options to try. Alternatively at the bottom of the forum page on the left side you'll notice the Style Chooser which has the same effect.​

When will a new forum skin be added?

As of now there are currently no plans of making new skins due to time constraints. ​

Can I make a forum skin?

Yes, surely you can. Xenforo offers a Demo option at the very least which gives access to the theme designer. If you have knowledge of CSS or a desire to learn it's a good way at making a forum skin. ​

Will you add my forum skin?

Promises cannot be made, however if you make a forum skin it'll be looked at seriously. With approval and general checking up on to make sure there's as few bugs and quirks as possible it'll be then added for the general population. Additionally if your forum skin is accepted expect a reward for the hard work put into it. ​

I put in the wrong birthday can I change it?

On your own, no you cannot, but worry not. To have your birthday changed you can contact an administrator or make a thread in the Staff Conference Room to have it changed for you. ​

I hate my username can I change it?

Yes you can, visit the . ​

How often can I change my username?

Every user has 3 name changes available, once ALL are used up you'll gain an additional one after 1 year, once that one is used up another year later another one. Rinse and repeat. These additional name changes don't stack. ​

If you wish to change names much more frequently however it is possible to purchase name changes with prize points from contests and events. ​

Why do you not have this amazing-awesome-super-emote added?

If you want to suggest an emote post it in the . ​

What do the different options on the dropdown menu mean?

Avatar: This option allows you to change your forum avatar.
Signature: Similar to Avatar this allows you to add or change your forum signature.
Preferences: Several key forum options and settings can be found here.
Personal Details: General user information can be found here, User Rank, Birthday, Bio and more.
Contact Details: Email, Instant Messengers and Social Media details can be found here.
Privacy: Online status, profile visibility and more can be found here.
Password: Changing your forum password is located here. As a general rule of thumb your password should be secure and not something like 'iam1man'
Two Step Verification: For added account security enable TSV to receive verification codes on your mobile device, email or web based application.


News Feed: Recent Activity of users you follow will be found here, from ratings they've given to threads/posts they've made.
Watched Threads: Threads you've added to your watch list can be found here for easy access.
Post History: All posts you've made (within technical boundaries) can be seen here.
Reputation: All reputation comments you've received will be located here. Can access the page from your profile additionally.
Ratings Received: All ratings you've received will be located here.
Ratings Given: All ratings you've given will be located here.
People You Follow: By clicking on a user's avatar or via their profile page you can follow them, this is similar to adding as friends on other similar software, and it'll allow you to see their posts in the News Feed much easier.
People You Ignore: By adding users to the ignore list their posts will no longer be easily accessible to you. Nor will they be able to start up a conversation with you.
Log Out: Self explanatory.


Preferences:
Style: Changes forum skin.
Transition: Changes transition effect of image slideshows.
Time Zone: Changes the time to your desired time zone so the forum clock will match your time.
Automatically Watch: Checking the box will give you alerts each time the specific 'Watch' option is activated, whether it be a blog post, thread, album or other. Checking the email box will have you receive an additional email on the matter. Unchecking both boxes allows for freedom to watch specific threads of interest or none whatsoever.
Rich Text Editor: This option allows you to instantly see desired HTML and BB code effects in most cases; the BB code editor gives freedom of doing everything in a more manual manner. Can switch between both when creating a new post, if already on RTE at the top right of post box will see 'Use BB Code Editor'.
Flash Uploader: Recommended keeping the box checked.
Show Signatures: If unchecked will disable signature visibility across the forum hiding all of them for you specifically.
Online Status: If unchecked will activate invisible mode.
Current Activity: If unchecked will hide visibility of threads you're currently viewing to normal members.
Hide Medals: If you've received forum medals from the you can hide visibility of them here.
Hide Reputation: Will hide the reputation icons visible at the very bottom left of your posts beneath your avatar.
Quote Notification: Checking one of the options will give you an email/conversation if your post is quoted.
Threads Per Page: Number represents how many threads you'll see per 1 page on the forum, this can be adjusted accordingly to preference.
Posts Per Page: Same as above, but for specific posts within a thread.
Conversations Per Page: Same as above, but for Conversations within your inbox.
Restore Dismissed Notices: Occasionally staff will add a forum notice that'll appear at the top of pages, normally these can be closed out via the 'X' on the side. If you close them out by mistake or simply wish to see again by selecting RDN they'll all return once more at the top of forum pages.

The YMP3 tag is a way to link a youtube video as playable audio without the entire video player.

Additionally on Xenforo you can quote users directly from their posts by clicking on the 'Reply' button. If you wish to quote multiple posts use "+Quote" which will add posts to multiquote queue which you can alter insert into your post. This also works on small portions of text by highlighting it.

Bold
The bold BB code makes your text really STAND out amongst the crowd. Can be added via inbuilt or the direct code.

Ratings & Reputation​

How many ratings can I give?

You can give as many or as few ratings as you want, within reason to not turn into ratings abuse.​

What is ratings abuse?

Ratings abuse is the act of spamming a single user with too many ratings, this can be positive or negative ratings and if staff notices or the user reports it to us it can result in a ratings ban.​

Where can I see the ratings I've received?

Head back to the handy dropdown menu and there you can see all the ratings you've received under 'Ratings Received'.​

Can I get an alert when someone gives me a rating?

Yes you can! Head on over to . Or without the link you can head to the dropdown menu, click on personal details and on the left side under Settings you'll see Alert Preferences. To receive alerts for ratings simply check the box 'Likes your message' and save! That's all and now every rating will give you an alert.​

Where can I see the ratings I've given?

Same method as seeing ratings you've received, simply click on 'Ratings Given' instead.​

I got a neg rep now what?

Don't get discouraged it happens! A user could've simply really disliked your post, it isn't the end of the world. However if the same user is giving you negative rep frequently and without reason you can report it to a moderator to be looked at, which could result in a ratings ban for the abuser. Note: 2 neg reps in a month or two doesn't constitute as abuse.​

How often can I rep a post?

A single post you can rep only once ever, but you can rep 9 posts a day.​

Why can't I rep this member again?

You have to 'spread' rep before you can rep the same user again, there needs to be 4 other users you've repped before you can rep the same again. Example: User A - B - C - D - E - A.​

Where can I see the rep I've received?

To see the rep you've received you can either click on Reputation from the dropdown menu, or by going directly your profile and clicking on the Reputation tab.​

What's the difference between rep points and rep power?

Reputation points are the total sum of rep that you've received, whereas reputation power is formulated based on your Reputation Points + your forum Join Date to determine your final rep power. Rep power is also the amount of rep points you'll give per rep.​

How do I get higher rep power?

To get higher rep power is not an easy task, it requires time to mature your join date, and it requires being repped by other users a good amount. Some forum contests may also include rep points as a consolation prize.​

How do I get higher rep points?

Make great/funny posts that users will like is the main way. Contests may award it at times also.​

Can I hide my rep bar?

You can! Head back to the dropdown menu and go to Preferences. Check the 'Hide your Reputation' box and click save. Now the rep bar under your avatar will show up no longer, but don't worry you can still receive rep and see comments normally.​

What are all the different rep ranks?

Unfortunately, no.

What's gold rep?

It's when your reputation bar turns gold instead of green/red. This happens at 4mil rep points or higher. ​

 

Thread, Section & Forum Ban​

Why is my name crossed out?

If someone's name is crossed out as such, then they've been forum banned.​

Why can't I post in this thread?

If you're unable to post in a specific thread while others work fine then you've likely been thread banned. ​

Why can't I see this section?

If you've lost access to an entire section while others work fine then you've been section banned.​

Why are all the sections gone?

If you see the Konoha Court you've been forum banned. If even that is gone, well you've been Level 2 banned and are unlikely to ever return to NF. ​

What's the Konoha Court?
It's fairly self explanatory; the court is the court, make a thread here if you feel wrongly accused and wish to plead your case to remove or decrease your ban length.


I can't give out ratings or rep to anyone?

You've been ratings sealed, you should have received a message from a moderator on the duration of it. Alternatively if you have less than 25 posts you need to reach that to unlock ratings.​

I can't change my avatar or signature anymore?

You've been ava/sig banned for breaking the rules on graphic content/adult content, you should have received a message from a moderator on the duration of it.​

Where did the Konoha Court go?

If you receive a level 2 forum ban you lose access to everything.​

Why is my ban longer than this other member?

Generally bans scale; 1 day > 3 days > 1 week > 2 weeks > 1 month > 3 months > 6 months > permanent (indefinite) ban. Which will make differences in ban lengths, also circumstances exist where repeated aggressive behaviour and ignoring warnings may result in escalation in length. Not to mention breaking extreme rules such as posting pornography in public sections may result in an immediate permanent ban.​

I've been wrongly accused what do I do?

In the case of a forum ban make your case in the Konoha Court, if it's a thread/section/ava/sig/ratings ban make a thread in the Staff Conference Room. ​

What's a dupe?

A dupe or duplicate account is a second account with the same owner, these are not allowed on NF and will result in a permanent ban of the dupe and a lesser ban length on the main account. Some exceptions may vary, and if you wish you restart on a new account make a thread in the Staff Conference Room so staff can ban your main account and permit the usage of your second. ​

What's a vacation ban?

If you're feeling the forum is a distraction to your general productivity in life and need to take a break for a while you can request a vacation ban in the Staff Conference Room. This'll limit your access to the forum so you can go back to productive living until you decide to come back. ​

 

Forum Contests, Prize Points & Prizes​

What are these forum contests I keep hearing about?

Forum contests and events are staff hosted content where NF users can obtain prize points and prizes. They can be found in several sections across the forum.​

How can I participate?

Each contest or event will generally have the rules and guidelines to participate in the opening post ( #1 ), this can be as simple as just posting in thread or will require some artistic talent for the various graphic contests.​

What are prize points?

Prize points can be won from contests and events and can be exchanged for various forum prizes.​

What can I do with prize points?

Exchange them for prizes, this can be done by posting in the prize thread found in the event/contest section or by contacting a moderator in charge of the section.​

Do my prize points expire?
No, they do not.


Can I combine points from different sections to get a prize?

Yes, you can. With the exception of the Mafia section all sections points are interchangeable. It is recommended that if you're using a majority of points from one section and only a minimum amount from another to request the prize in the majority section.​

My prize disappeared?

All prizes are limited on time, which you're told of when you get the prize. If it disappeared but your time isn't up though, make a thread in the Q&C section to have it looked into.​

How do I see who moderates a section?

In each section there's an option to view the Moderator List which will show staff specifically allotted to that section.​

I have a problem with a user who do I turn to?

If there's an issue with a specific user inside of a section you can:​

• Report the post/conversation/profile message.
• Contact the section moderator directly by starting a conversation with them.
• Make a SCR thread.
• Contact a Global Moderator/Super Moderator/Admin by starting a conversation with them if the previous options fail.

Can I see all staff somewhere?

Yes, you can. Two of the easiest ways are:​

1. Visit the in the Q&C which is updated regularly.
2. Under the Staff Members tab of the Notable Members portion of the Members tab.

Who are these users with an Advisor rank?

Advisors are former staff members who have retained a voice in staff related discussions. While retired by all means they remain to help out with ideas and general discussions on the forum's future.​

What abilities do moderators have and do I need a super moderator for my problem?

Moderator capabilities can be seen in the . If your problem can't be handled by a section moderator you'll need to reach out to a Global or Super moderator.​

Can I be a moderator?

You can't request it no and in general requesting to be a moderator is a likely disqualification in itself. Moderator candidates will generally be vetted by a section moderator (or higher) who sees active and good posting behaviours in a specific section. If your presence is very minimal in the section you think you can moderate the chances of being noticed are pretty low, and in general being well liked by the people you'd operate with does help get the ball rolling.​

This user is annoying can you ban him?

If they aren't breaking any rules then no. Otherwise you can report their posts or make a thread in the S.C.R. to have it looked into.​

What do the different username colours and font types mean?

S-Mods and Admins additionally have the option to customize their colour and font, but the tag under their avatars will remain to distinguish them from one another.

 

Miscellaneous ​

What's the bathhouse?

The bathhouse is a section for members who are 18+ years old and wish to see pornographic content. It is the only place where such things are allowed on the forum.​

How do I apply to the bathhouse?

Read more about it . In general send a message to one of the people listed in that thread if you meet all the listed requirements. ​

What are these medals under a user's name?

Medals can be awarded once a user meets the specified requirements. ​

Can I get them too?

Yes, you can. If you meet the specified requirements post in with the medal(s) you wish to receive. ​

I'm tired of looking at them what do I do now?

In the handy dropdown menu under preferences you can checkmark the 'Hide all Medals' box, which will hide them. Otherwise there's no alternative to removing medals. ​

I keep getting logged out?

When logging in make sure that 'Stay Logged In' is checked if you wish to remain logged in without any interruptions. ​

Give me a bigger avatar?

Win a contest/forum event or save up prize points to get one.​

Why does the forum keep lagging?

If the forum is slow while all your other browser tabs function just fine it's likely due to some server issues which should resolve themselves swiftly enough.​

Why can't I see blogs?

Just like with avatar permissions to see blogs you need to have 25 forum posts and you might need to wait up to an hour for the usergroup to update. ​
